Take & assign conversations

If you're signed in to a work or school account, the options you see might be different. To learn more, contact your administrator.

In Collaborative Inbox groups, you can assign conversations to group members. This is useful when you want to get a response from a specific member.

Allow conversations to be taken and assigned 

Requires the Owner or Manager role.

Decide who can take and assign conversations, then make sure they have the Who can moderate metadata permission.

  1. Sign in to Google Groups.
  2. Click the name of a group.
  3. On the left, click Group settingsand thenPosting policies.
  4. In the Who can moderate metadata section, select who should be allowed to take and assign conversations.
  5. Click Save changes.

Take a conversation

Requires the Who can moderate metadata permission.

  1. Sign in to Google Groups.
  2. Click the name of a group.
  3. Choose an option:
    • To take a single conversation—Click the conversation.
    • To take multiple conversations—Point to each conversationand thencheck the box next to the poster's name.
  4. At the top, click Take .

Assign or reassign a conversation

Requires the Who can moderate metadata permission.

  1. Sign in to Google Groups.
  2. Click the name of a group.
  3.  Choose an option:
    • To assign a single conversation—Click the conversation.
    • To assign multiple conversations—Point to each conversationand thencheck the box next to the poster's name.
  4. At the top, click Assign .
  5. Enter the email address of the person to assign the conversation toand thenclick Done.

View conversations that are assigned to you

Requires the Who can view conversations permission.

  1. Sign in to Google Groups.
  2. Click the name of a group.
  3. At the top, in the search bar, click the Down arrow .
  4. Click Assigned toand thenselect Assigned to me.
  5. Click Search.

Mark a conversation as complete

Requires the Who can moderate metadata permission.

  1. Sign in to Google Groups.
  2. Click the name of a group.
  3.   Choose an option:
    • To mark a single conversation—Click the conversation.
    • To mark multiple conversations—Point to each conversationand thencheck the box next to the poster's name.
  4. At the top, click Mark as complete .

Mark a conversation as unassigned

Requires the Who can moderate metadata permission.

When you unassign a conversation, this removes any assignment, regardless of who made the assignment or who it was assigned to.

  1. Sign in to Google Groups.
  2. Click the name of a group.
  3.   Choose an option:
    • To mark a single conversation—Click the conversation.
    • To mark multiple conversations—Point to each conversationand thencheck the box next to the poster's name.
  4. At the top, click Drop .
