Take & assign topics

In Collaborative inbox groups, people can assign topics to each other. This is useful when someone posts a question, and you want to assign it to another member for a response.

Before you begin

Make sure your group type is "Collaborative inbox." 

  1. Sign in to Google Groups.
  2. Click My groups.
  3. Choose a group.
  4. Near the top right, click Manage group
  5. On the left, click Information and then Advanced.
  6. Next to "Select a group type," click the Down arrow Down Arrow.
  7. Choose Collaborative inbox.
  8. Click Reset this group.
  9. In the box that pops up, click Reset group.

Allow topics to be taken and assigned

Decide who will be able to take and assign topics, then make sure they have the "Moderate metadata" permission. 

  1. Sign in to Google Groups.
  2. Click My groups.
  3. Choose a group.
  4. Near the top right, click Manage group.
  5. On the left, click Permissions and then Posting permissions.
  6. In the "Moderate metadata" section, select who should be allowed to take and assign topics.
  7. Click Save.

Take a topic

People who have the "Moderate metadata" permission can take topics (assign topics to themselves).

  1. Sign in to Google Groups.
  2. Click My groups.
  3. Choose a group.
  4. Select topics by checking the box beside them.
  5. At the top, click Actions.
  6. Select Take. The name of the person the topic is assigned to appears in the box at the top of the topic.

Assign or reassign a topic

People who have the "Moderate metadata" permission can assign and reassign topics.

  1. Sign in to Google Groups.
  2. Click My groups.
  3. Choose a group.
  4. Select topics by checking the box beside them.
  5. At the top, click Actions.
  6. Select Assign.
  7. Next to the name of a member, click Assign.

View topics that are assigned to you

  1. Sign in to Google Groups.
  2. Click My groups.
  3. Choose a group.
  4. At the top, click Filters.
  5. Next to "Assigned to me," select the button.
  6. Click Apply selected filters.

Mark a topic as unassigned

People who have the "Moderate metadata" permission can mark topics as unassigned.

  1. Sign in to Google Groups.
  2. Click My groups.
  3. Choose a group.
  4. Select topics by checking the box beside them.
  5. At the top, click Actions.
  6. Select Drop.
