Learn how to fix problems with the Google TV virtual remote

If your Google TV virtual remote isn't working, this article can help fix it.

Check your Wi-Fi connection

Important: To use your phone as a remote, your phone and TV must be on the same Wi-Fi network.

To check or change the connection on your TV:

  1. From the Google TV home screen, tap Settings Settings and then Network and Internet.
  2. Confirm the 'Wi-Fi' is on and you’re connected to the correct network.
    • If necessary, select the network you want to connect to.
    • If necessary, enter the password.

To check or change the connection on your Android device:

  1. On your Android device, open the Settings app.
  2. To find your network or select a different network, tap Network and Internet and then Wi-Fi.
Restart your Google TV
  1. On your Google TV, unplug the power cord.
  2. Wait for 10 seconds.
  3. Plug in the power cord.
  4. Set up the virtual remote again.
Check your remote’s volume settings
  1. From the Google TV home screen, tap Settings Settings.
  2. Tap Remote and accessories and then Set up remote buttons and then Volume control.
  3. Confirm 'Volume control' is set to 'Auto (CEC)'.
