Google Play store does not work

I'm from Sweden but I've been traveling around Europe since late last year, and now have a vacation home in Croatia where I've lived since september.

Sometime around october-november my Google play store stopped working. It just shows a satelite saying "Try again".

I've tried all the basic troubleshooting like clearing cace/storage for Google Play services and Google Play store apps, restarting the phone, but nothing helps.

I recently changed my country in Google payment options to Croatia and added a new payment option to see if that would help, still no improvement.

I'm still a Swedish citizen and go back there regularly so I'm afraid that changing to a Croatian payment option will make my Swedish 3D secure eID payment stop working.

I can't be the first Google user to travel a lot. This is so weird.

Payments via Google still work, I can request apps to be installed from the Google Play website but the progress never finishes. Same with mandatory updates, they start but never finish, or they redirect to a non-functional Play store app.

I'm using a fully updated Pixel 6 with Android 14.

Sure, I can help you with that. Here are some things you can try to fix your Google Play Store issue:
  1. Check your internet connection. Make sure you have a strong and stable internet connection. You can try restarting your router or modem, or moving closer to your router.
  2. Clear the cache and data for the Google Play Store app. To do this, open your device's Settings app, tap Apps, tap Google Play Store, then tap Storage & cache. Tap Clear cache and Clear storage.
  3. Restart your device. Sometimes a simple restart can fix minor software issues.
  4. Uninstall and reinstall the Google Play Store app. To do this, open your device's Settings app, tap Apps, tap Google Play Store, then tap Uninstall. Once the app has been uninstalled, go back to the Google Play Store app page and tap Install.
  5. Check for updates. Make sure your device is running the latest version of Android and the Google Play Store app. To do this, open your device's Settings app, tap System, then tap System updates. If an update is available, tap Download and install.
  6. Contact Google support. If you've tried all of the above and you're still having trouble, you can contact Google support for help. You can do this by visiting the Google Play Help Center or by calling Google's customer service number.
I hope this helps!

1. Internet is fine and works for downloading and streaming, this problem affects me on all internet connections. Wifi at home, wifi at friends, 4G.
2. Already cleared cache and storage several times.
3. Every time I clear cache/storage I try a restart.
4. Uninstalling Google Play store app is not possible on a stock Pixel 6 with Android 14, only disabling the app.
5. The last update was actually installed after the Google Play store stopped working, just 3-4 weeks ago.
6. I've already contacted Google and they give me the same list of standard troubleshooting that you do.

What I want is first of all an answer to; Is this a known issue or not? Does Google Play store stop working for other people who travel a lot?

If it's not a normal issue then what should I do? My apps stop working one by one because they cannot be updated so it's just a matter of time before an important banking app stops working.

I believe the next step should be to reset the whole phone.

And after that I actually have ordered a Pixel 7a to see if I can reproduce the issue on another device.
