[INFO] - About transferring balance or purchased stuff to another account

Hello to all the Google Play community!

Sometimes it happens to me to answer questions regarding users who have redeemed a Google Play Gift card on the wrong account (maybe because they own more than one Google Account) or just find they have some balance they are not using and they are wondering how to give it to someone else.

This little post is made in order to provide you with useful information about Google Play balance and what you can do when you feel the need of transferring it to another account.

As you may already know, Google Play balance is not transferable: that means a Google Play card redeemed on the wrong account is used forever and this passage cannot be reverted. At the same time, balance of a Google Play account is completely tied with that account and cannot be transferred to other ones.

Despite Google Play balance is not transferable, there are still alternative workaround solutions you can try in order to enjoy your wrongly redeemed Google Play gift cards without particular problems. This post will list some of the workaround solutions you can consider.

Setting up a Family Library allows you to share apps & movies among different accounts.
A Google Play feature called "Family Library" has been created in order to allow members of a family enjoying content purchased by one of them without having to pay for it more than once. This is a useful feature for those who want to build a digital movie library on Google Play Movie by letting everyone in the family watching movies from their personal accounts, even if these have been bought by another member of the family. The same for paid apps and games (and even for some books): all people in the family will be able to access them even if only one of them has physically purchased them.

Why this workaround solution?
If you have some Google Play balance on an account and would like to buy movies or apps on another account, setting up a family library among the two accounts allow you to buy movies and apps on the account topped with balance, letting you to enjoy content you have purchased also by using your other account. If you have already a family library and you have not reached the maximum users limit, you can just add your second account to the existing group.

What I have to do?
Setting up a Family Library between your two accounts, purchasing the stuff you need (some books, movies & apps) with the Google Account topped with balance. and then add your movies/apps to the family library, so you can enjoy them also on the other account. Please note: this works only for apps & movies: you cannot share purchased music with other accounts. If you need to buy music, read the second workaround solution.

Transferring music from a Google Play account to another.
If you are interested in buying music on an account but you have balance to spend on another one, in this case the solution is simple: you can purchase your desired albums & songs on the account in which you have available balance to spend, then download them as MP3 files to your PC, delete them from the original Google Play account and then re-upload them on your other account (as long as these accounts are all belonging to you and you are not doing this in order to distribute songs illegally to other users).

Why this workaround solution?
Because Google Play allows you to easily download your purchased music as MP3 files and, at the same time, it allows you to upload external MP3 files, so that you can download music from an account, delete songs from your Google Play library in that account, then re-upload them on the other account.

What I have to do?
Purchasing music on the account in which you have balance to spend, then download it. After having downloaded all your music to your PC, delete the original songs from your Google Play account and then re-upload them on the Google Play Music account you want to use for listening to music. Please note: after having purchased songs on the first account and downloaded them, delete them from your Google Play library, and then re-upload them on the correct Google Play Account. Do not upload songs on multiple accounts, do not share them with other people (so make sure your first and second accounts all belong to you) and keep all the order receipts (in addition to this, don't delete the Google Play account you have used to buy the songs, as in this all orders are registered and are considered as a proof of your purchases even if you listen to your songs on another account).

Adding two accounts on your smartphone
This is is the simplest solution you can follow when you are using two Google Accounts, have some Google Play stuff on one of them, but also some balance to spend on another account: if you add both accounts to your smartphone, you will be able to easily switch between them and enjoy stuff you have purchased on both of them.

Why this workaround solution?
Because it is a very rapid way to have instant access to Google Play stuff from more than one Google Account, in just one device.

What I have to do?
Adding two accounts to your phone, so that you are able to enjoy Google Play stuff purchased with both of them.

And if I just want to send a gift to a friend?
You cannot transfer your balance to a friend, but you can still buy a Google Play Gift Card all for him/her, or even make a digital gift: your imagination is the only limit!

I hope this post will be useful to all the users of the community
Happy New Year!
