Earn and track your Google Play Points

After you join, you’ll earn points for Google Play purchases made from your enrolled Google Account. You won’t get points for purchases you made before you joined Google Play Points.

How to earn points

  • Buy apps or games
  • Make in-app or in-game purchases and subscriptions
  • Buy books, movies, TV shows or episode purchases with Google Play or the Google Play Movies app
  • Buy music or subscription with Google Play Music
  • Install select apps and games

Note: You won’t earn points for any YouTube purchases.

Content that you can buy and earn points on depends on your country.

Things to know about points

  • Even if you’ll only be able to sign up to Play Points on your Android device, you’ll still be able to earn points with Google Play purchases that you’ve made using your computer or smart TV.
  • You can’t purchase points or convert points to cash.
  • You can’t transfer points between accounts or to someone else, even if they are a part of your family group.
  • If you have Google Play Points and change your billing country, your points are lost and your level isn’t carried over to the new billing country.

How points are calculated

To calculate points earned, multiply the item’s price by the base earn rate for your level. The number of points you’ll earn is rounded up or down to the nearest whole number.

You’ll only earn points for the price of the item, not including any taxes paid.

For example:

At the Bronze level, you earn 1 point per ‎$1 USD on all purchases. If you spend $5 USD, you get 5 points.

  • When you move up to the Silver level, you earn 1.10 points per ‎$1 USD. If you spend $5 USD, you get 6 points, rounded up from 5.50.
Tip: At the start of each calendar year, your level may change based on how many points you earned the year before. The higher your level, the more you earn per $1 USD on all purchases. Learn more about level changes.

Where your points count towards

Earned points count towards both Play Points balance and level progress.

  • Play Points balance: Use these points to unlock special items in apps and games or exchange them for Google Play Credit. When you use or exchange points, the points will be deducted from this balance. Any points you earn will expire one year after the last time you earned points.
  • Level progress: Points you’ve earned in a calendar year count as progress towards the next level. Points won’t be deducted from your level progress when you use them. Once you reach a level, you keep that level until the end of the next calendar year.

When you return or cancel a purchase that you earned points on, those points will be deducted from your Play Points balance and level progress.

Check your points & when they expire

  1. On your Android device, open the Google Play Store app Google Play.
  2. Tap Menu Menu and then Play Points.
    • For your points balance, tap Use. Your points balance and expiration date are at the top.
    • To check how many points you got for a purchase, tap More More and then Points history.

Earn extra points through promotions

Some promotions will increase your earning rate on select purchases. You can earn points at the highest available earn rate during specified time periods.

  • Multiple promotions can’t be combined on a single purchase.
  • Promotions have a set earn rate that they apply.
  • Promotions and their expiration dates may vary.
  • You can earn extra points on new installs within the promotion period. You don't earn additional points if you uninstall and then reinstall.
  • Some promotions may require an activation.
  • Some promotions may have an expiration date. If you make your purchase after the expiration date, you earn points at the regular rate for your level.

Subscriptions:

  • If you purchase a subscription through the app, you earn points at the regular rate for your level.
  • Some promotions may offer additional points for first time subscribers in select apps and games.
  • You can only receive a maximum one time point bonus for being a first time subscriber to an app or game.
  • Select subscriptions in apps and games may offer additional points when you’re billed.
  • Points are only earned on purchases made through Google Play.

Check your promotions

  1. On your Android device, open the Google Play Store app Google Play.
  2. Tap Menu Menu and then Play Points and then Earn.
  3. At the top, you’ll see your base level earning rate. At the bottom, you’ll see a list of promotions and their special offers.

Here’s an example of how points are calculated with a special earn rate:

John is at the Silver level, and his base earn rate for all purchases is 1.10 points per $1 USD.
He gets a special offer to earn 3 points per $1 USD from a specific game. Because the special offer is a better earn rate than his base earn rate, John will get the special offer rate for purchases in that game.
When he spends $1 USD in that game during the special offer period, he’ll earn 3 points on that purchase.

Redeem weekly prizes

If you’re at Silver level or higher in Play Points, you’ll be able to get extra points by claiming your weekly prize.

Important: Weekly prizes reset on Friday in your Play country.

  1. On your Android device, open the Google Play Store app Google Play.
  2. Tap Menu Menu and then Play Points and then Perks.
  3. Check when your next weekly prize is available, or tap Open.
  4. Tap to claim your Weekly Prize.
    • To check if you already redeemed your weekly prize, tap More More and then Points history.
