Check & fix Play Protect certification status

Devices that are Play Protect certified:

  • Include proprietary apps under license from Google.
  • Have passed Android compatibility testing.

Only Play Protect certified devices are eligible to include Google apps, like the Google Play Store app. If your device isn't Play Protect certified, Google doesn’t have a record of the device’s Android compatibility test results.

Tips:
  • Devices that aren't Play Protect certified may not be secure.
  • Devices that aren't Play Protect certified may not get Android system updates or app updates.
  • Google apps on devices that aren't Play Protect certified aren't licensed and aren't real Google apps.
  • Apps and features on devices without Play Protect certification may not work correctly.
  • Data on devices without Play Protect certification may not have a secure backup.

Verify your device certification status

  1. Open the Google Play Store app Google Play.
  2. At the top right, tap the profile icon.
  3. Tap Settings.
  4. To check if your device is Play Protect certified, tap About.
Device is certified

If your device is certified and you received an alert that it’s not, you can send feedback to help us review the alert.

  1. On your device, open Settings.
  2. Tap Google and then Help and feedback and then Send feedback.
  3. Enter details about what happened.
    • If your issue is with an app, include the name of the app that you used when you received the error and add the hashtag #appissue.
    • If your issue is device related, include the type of device that you used when you received the error and add the hashtag #deviceintegrity.
  4. For more information on the error, tap System logs.
  5. Tap Send .
Device isn’t certified

Check if your device is on the list of certified devices.

If it’s not listed: Your device isn’t Play Protect certified.

If it’s listed: To trigger the Play Protect certification check, tap Fix device issue.

If you received an error, here are some steps you can take:

Error message What it means What you can try
Your device has no network connection There was a problem with the network connection between the device and Play systems. Make sure that you're connected to a stable internet connection by opening your Settings app and visiting Network and Internet or Connections. Find out how to fix internet connection issues.
Google Play services is out of date The version of Google Play services installed on your device is outdated. Find out how to update Google Play services.
Google Play services can’t be found Your device couldn’t detect Google Play services. You may have disabled or not installed Google Play services for your device.

Turn on Google Play services for your device:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Apps and then Google Play services and then Enable.
There was an issue found with your device Your device fails Play Protect certification checks. The most common reasons are:
  • Unlocked bootloader
  • Modded Android OS
  • Rooted device
Follow instructions provided by your device manufacturer to lock your device’s bootloader or to factory reset the device.
Something went wrong. Try again later. The attempt to fix the device certification issue failed with an unknown transient error. Wait for at least 10 minutes and then try again.

Tip: If your device is certified but fails the fix steps, contact your device manufacturer for a Play Protect-certified device.

Can't check certification status

If you don’t have Google Play installed or can’t sign in to Google Play. Check if your device is on the list of certified devices.

If it’s not listed: Your device isn’t Play Protect certified.

If it’s on the list: We’d like more information about your experience. You can start a new thread in the Android community to help us review the alert.

  1. Go to the Android Help Community. You can post in any language.
  2. At the bottom, tap Ask now.
  3. Type in your question.
  4. Tap Continue.
  5. For the down arrow options:
    • First down arrow: Tap Google Play services.
    • Second down arrow: Select your Android version. Learn how to check your Android version.
    • Third down arrow: Select your phone manufacturer. If it’s not listed, tap Other.
  6. Tap Continue.
  7. Add details about what you did when you received the error.
  8. Tap I’m not a robot and then Post.
