Use Google Play Movies on Chrome & Chromebook

Enjoy videos on your Chrome browser or Chromebook by using the Google Play Movies & TV extension.

Install the Play Movies Chrome extension  

Step 1: Download the latest version of Chrome
  1. Open Chrome Chrome.
  2. On the top right, click the Chrome menu More.
  3. Click Help and then About Google Chrome.
  4. If an update is available, click Relaunch (under the version number) to install updates.

Step 2: Install the Google Play Movies & TV extension
  1. Open Chrome Chrome.
  2. Go to Google Play Movies & TV in the Chrome Web Store.
  3. Click Add To Chrome and then Add app.
  4. To open the Google Play Movies & TV extension, click Launch App.

Watch videos on Chrome or Chromebook

Using a Mac or PC
  1. Open Chrome Chrome.
  2. Go to chrome://apps.
  3. Select Play Movies. You may need to click All apps​ first.
  4. Select and play a video.
Using a Chromebook
  1. At the bottom , click the Launcher Launcher.
  2. Select Play Movies.
  3. Select and play a video.

Download and watch offline on your Chromebook

Use the Chrome extension to download videos on your Chromebook and enjoy them offline.

Downloading videos on your Chromebook
  1. Make sure you've installed the Google Play Movies & TV extension from the Chrome Web Store.
  2. At the bottom, click the Launcher Launcher.
  3. Select Play Movies. You may need to click Up Arrow Up arrow to see All apps first.
  4. Under a movie or TV episode in your library, click the Download icon Not saved.

The Download icon will fill in red to indicate your download progress. You can watch your video offline once the download icon turns into a checkmark Downloaded. To remove a video, click the checkmark Downloaded.

Fix problems downloading videos on your Chromebook

Fix error message "too many devices"?

Remove the video from one of your other devices and try downloading again.

Fix problems with videos that have stopped downloading

If your video appears to have stopped downloading, try:

  1. Wait at least 5 minutes to see if the video downloads.
    • Downloads can start quickly and slow down in the middle. Sometimes it can take a few minutes for progress to show.
  2. Without canceling your download, close and reopen Google Play Movies .
    • This can help a download which was stuck due to network problems.
  3. Cancel and restart the download.
    • Cancel your download by clicking Download Not saved. Click it again to restart.
