Watch Google Play Movies & TV with Chromecast

When you've set up your Chromecast, use Google Play Movies & TV to show videos on your TV.

  1. Connect your Android phone or tablet and Chromecast to the same wireless network.
  2. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Play Movies & TV app Play Movies.
  3. At the bottom, tap Library and then Movies or TV shows.
  4. Choose a movie or show.
  5. Tap Cast Cast.
  6. Select your Chromecast from the list.
  7. On the Google Play Movies & TV app, tap Play.
    • To disconnect, tap Cast Cast and then select your device from the list.

Video controls: You can pause, rewind, or fast forward your video through the Google Play Movies & TV app or your device's notifications.

Using a Mac
  1. On your Mac, go to chrome://apps on your Chrome browser
  2. Select "Play Movies."
  3. At the top, click Cast Cast.
  4. Under "Connect to a device," select your Chromecast from the device list.
  5. Select and play a video.

To disconnect from your Chromecast, click Cast Cast and then Stop casting.

Playback tips

  • HD movie rentals will play in HD on Chromecast, even if your phone isn't capable of HD playback.
  • Chromecast will keep playing your video, even if your phone or tablet runs out of battery. To access video controls again, you'll need to connect another device to the Chromecast.
  • To save battery, you can turn the screen off on your device during playback.
  • If you're signed in to YouTube, make sure that you're signed into Play Movies & TV using the same Google Account.
  • To binge watch while casting, create a playlist on YouTube.
