Read books offline

You can save books for offline reading so you can read them without an Internet connection using the Google Play Books app Google Play Books app on Android or your computer using the Google Play Books app for Google Chrome.

Using your Android device

  1. Make sure your device is connected to Wi-Fi or has a strong Internet connection.
  2. Open the Google Play Books app Google Play Books app.
  3. On Read Now or My Library, touch the Google Play Pin grey or Google Play Books Pin blue angled pin icon to begin saving a book to your device.
    • If a pin icon doesn’t appear for a book, visit My Library, then touch Menu > Keep on device for the book you’d like to save.
  4. Once your book has been saved to your device, it will display a Google Play Books offline blue, vertical pin.

Books may be temporarily cached (indicated by the Google Play Books Pin angled, blue icon) when you start reading them. It’s a good idea to select the pin icon or Menu > Keep on device to ensure that your book is available offline.

To remove or stop a download in progress, tap the Google Play Books offline pin icon and select Remove.
