Download and read books offline

You can download your eBook so that you can read it anywhere, even when you don't have an Internet connection.

Download books on your computer

To download Google Play Books for offline reading on a computer, you'll need the Google Chrome browser and the free Play Books app from the Chrome Web Store.

Check that Google Play Books app for Chrome is installed 

  1. On your computer, open Chrome Chrome .
  2. At the top of your browser, click Apps menu Google apps.
    • If you can’t find the Apps menu, the bookmarks bar may be hidden. To show the bookmarks bar, click the Chrome Menu Menu and then Bookmarks and then Show bookmarks bar.
  3. Select the Web Store chrome store.
  4. Search for 'Google Play Books' and then click Add to Chrome Add app.

Download books to read offline

  1. On your computer, make sure that you're connected to the Internet.
  2. Open Chrome Chrome.
  3. Click the Apps menu Google apps.
    • You can also enter chrome://apps/ in the address bar.
  4. Select the Play Books app Play Books.
  5. Move your mouse over a book.
  6. Tick the box next to 'Make available offline'.

Download and transfer books to your e-Reader

  1. On your computer, download Adobe Digital Editions and follow the instructions to install it.
  2. Go to Google Play Books.
  3. Click My books.
  4. On the book that you want to download, click More Moreand thenclick Download EPUB (recommended) or Download PDF.
  5. Connect your eReader to your computer.
  6. Open Adobe Digital Editions. Drag the book to the name of the device to which you want to transfer it.

Important: Your purchased eBook can only be associated with a single Adobe ID. Standard device limits will apply. Not all books are supported for download. Check the details page of your book in the Play Store for availability.
