Use your phone or computer to install apps and content on other devices

Apps and digital content, such as books, games and movies, are connected to your Google Account, not just your device. If you get a new device, you don’t have to buy them again. You can use them on multiple devices.

Sync your apps across devices

When you turn on app sync, apps that you install on your phone or tablet can be automatically installed on other devices that are signed in with your Google Account. You can sync apps to other devices like your tablet, watch, Chromebook or TV. If you use Android Automotive, you can also sync apps to your car.

To turn on app sync on your phone or tablet:

  1. Open the Google Play Store Google Play.
  2. Tap your Profile icon.
  3. Tap Manage apps and device and then Sync apps to devices.
  4. Select the devices that you want to sync to your apps.

Tips:

Reinstall apps on a new or second device

If you get a new device or if you have issues with App sync, you can reinstall any apps that you bought. To reinstall apps, you must use the same account on all devices. Learn how to reinstall apps on Android.

Tip: Some content may not be available on all devices.

Content can’t be transferred between accounts

If you own multiple accounts, you can’t transfer content between accounts on Google Play. If you have multiple accounts on your device, before you complete your purchase, make sure that you’re signed in to the account that you want to use.

If you purchased an app on the wrong account, contact the app developer. They may give you a refund for your purchase.
