Watch movies & TV shows on your computer

You can watch movies on your computer by visiting our web player, using the Play Movies & TV Chrome extension, or downloading videos to your Chromebook.

Use the web player

  1. Go to
  2. Click the movie or show you want to start watching.
  3. To close the web player, click anywhere outside the window.

Use the Play Movies extension for Chrome or Chromebooks

If you’re using Chrome or a Chromebook, you can install and use the Google Play Movies & TV extension to watch your videos. You can get additional features like info cards and cast videos to your TV with Chromecast.

Watch offline on a Chromebook

Use the Google Play Movies extension to download videos to your Chromebook so you can watch when you're not connected to the Internet.

Downloading movies for offline viewing is only possible on Chromebooks, not other laptops or computers. You can also download movies to watch offline to your mobile phone or tablet.

Problems watching videos on your computer

Troubleshoot issues

If you’re having trouble playing videos on your computer, try the following:

  • Try using the Chrome browser to watch videos on your computer, if you’re not already.
  • If you’re already using Chrome, try the Google Play Movies & TV Chrome extension.

If you can’t use Chrome and are using a different web browser like Firefox or Internet Explorer, try the following:

  1. Clear the cache and cookies on your browser.
  2. If you are still having issues, try these additional troubleshooting options.
Error: A required component is missing

If you’re having trouble watching your video in Chrome, and see an error that says a “required component is missing,” try the troubleshooting steps below. 

First, try updating the WidevineCdmcomponent in Chrome. 

  1. In your Chrome browser, type chrome://components into the address bar. Press enter. 
  2. Find the component labeled "Widevine Content Decryption Module."
  3. Select Check for update.
  • If the status reads “Component updated,” restart Chrome and try watching your movie again.
  • If the status reads “Component not updated,” there are no available updates for your browser. Try the steps below.
    1. In your Chrome browser, type in chrome://plugins into the address bar. Press enter.
    2. Locate the Widevine Content Decryption Module plug-in and select Enable if that option is shown.
    3. Once you have made sure the WidevineCdm plug-in is enabled, try again.
