Reinstall and re-enable apps

When you download an app on Google Play, the app is connected to your Google Account. This means you can reinstall apps to new or reset devices. If you paid for an app, then you can reinstall it without paying for it again.

You can also re-enable apps you've disabled. You may have done this to hide apps which came pre-installed on your device.

Reinstall and re-enable apps

  1. Open the Google Play Store app Play Store.
  2. Touch Menu Google Play Store Menu Icon> My Apps and games > All.
  3. Touch the app you want to reinstall.
  4. Touch Install or Enable.

Reinstall vs. re-enable

There are two ways to add apps back on your device depending on whether you downloaded the app or if it came preinstalled:

  • Reinstall downloaded apps: When you download an app on Google Play, the app is connected to your Google Account. This means you can reinstall downloaded apps to new or reset devices without purchasing them again.
  • Re-enable preinstalled apps: If an app comes pre-installed on your device you can disable it. This hides the app on your device. If you later decide you want to use the app you can re-enable it.

Can't find previously purchased or downloaded apps

You should be able to reinstall an app you previously purchased without buying it again. If there's an app which you previously purchased on Google Play that you can't find or are asked to purchase again, make sure you're signed in to the same account as when you made your purchase:

On Android mobile devices

  1. Open the Google Play Store app Play Store.
  2. Touch Menu Google Play Store Menu Icon to see which account you're currently using.
  3. To change accounts, touch the dropdown arrow Selector and select a different account.

On Android TV

Many apps will automatically update on Android TV. If you see an app in the "Updates" section of the Play Store, you need to individually approve that update.

  1. Open the Google Play Store app Google Play.
  2. Move to the right on the "Updates" row to see apps with available updates.
  3. Select individual apps and touch Update.
  4. Select Update All to update all apps. For individual apps, find the specific app you want to update and select Update.

Uninstall apps

If you reinstall or re-enable an app you can always remove it again later. Visit uninstall, disable, and delete apps for more info.
