White-Label Apps Same Functionality Different Branding

We have reviewed the regs a few times over but are still dubious of the correct best practice for this situation. We has developed a Travel Card Platform that is setup for a number of different destinations and operators. They require a Customer App for their clients to use with the system we provide them on SOLaaS basis. Therefore the Apps are all similar but will have some functionality switched on and off and all have a different brand profile look and feel, but underlying are the same APP.

Is the correct manner of making these available in the Play Store to have the different versions under our account, or to make these available with each company and brand having its own version of the App in their own distinct Play Store accounts?

Any help greatly appreciated

Hi Glen,

I can't give you a firm yes or no (clearly I have not seen the app) but the best I can give you is that you will probably be ok - It sounds like it is different enough.

If in doubt you can always reach out to support and see if they can give you a firm answer. https://support.google.com/googleplay/android-developer/gethelp

Hi,

Uploading the apps to your account or to their own accounts makes little difference. Of course with their own account they get their branding etc on the account and may make it easier for their users etc.

Your biggest problem is the repetitive content policy which applies across accounts (https://support.google.com/googleplay/android-developer/answer/9899034)

It may be that your app will be ok because the content in the app is different enough and so won't fall under that policy.

Hi Ben,

Technically the Apps connect to different platforms and the products and experiences under each app will be vastly different, not just branding. But the core functions are the same. So functions similar but usage and content definitely distinct and no cross over. Do you feel this is enough of a differentiation not to fall foul of the repetitive content. As the content will definitely be different, just the way the app functions will be similar!

Thanks for the advice and feedback.
