Setting a timer with google assistant suddenly not working

Hi I have been setting timers using the Google assistant on my Google pixel watch perfectly fine and all of a sudden today when asking to set a timer the assistant asks which app I would like. When I say timer it asks for how long and then it asks what app to use again and gets stuck in a loop. Not sure what changed when it worked perfectly fine before .

I can confirm the issue is happening on my end as well. Spent the last 30 minutes troubleshooting and no luck. I will ask around and if needed escalate the issue, but for now it would be great if you can send feedback to the team

  1. On your phone, open the Google Pixel Watch app .
  2. Tap Tips & support  Send feedback.
  3. Write a detailed description of your feedback.
  4. In the top right corner, tap Send .

Can you try again? I just tried it just now and it's working as expected, and was able to set timer as usual. I'm guessing it was a temporary issue with Assistant.

It works on my phone, but not my Pixel Watch 2. Pixel Watch 2 is still asking "All right, which app do you want to use?"

I also have no problem using the Pixel phone assistant and creating a timer.

The watch is still a problem that I noticed today... Same story as everyone else. Frustrating.

I submitted the Feedback from the phone, but I also went ahead and initiated a support call to help increase the visibility of this. There was no solution, but they should be escalating it. For context, here are details and answers addressed in that call.

  • Exact problem: On my Pixel Watch 2, when I try to use Google Assistant to start a timer using my voice, it responds with "All right, which app do you want to use?" If I say "clock", it simply opens the Clock app and does nothing else.
  • I can use Google Assistant voice commands on the phone that is connected to the Watch without issue
  • The watch does show as connected in the Watch app
  • Pixel Watch 2 with Wear 4.0
  • Pixel 8 Pro with Android 14
  • Default timer/clock app, not third party
  • Restarting devices did not fix it
  • Clearing Watch cache did not fix it

The idea of a factory reset on the watch was mentioned, but I am not eager to go that route since other folks are having this issue and it is a new issue.

I did the following:

  • Reset and disconnect the watch and set the watch back up (this might not be the solution, see belw)
  • Update all apps

I can start timers on my watch again.

It is possible that Updating apps was the actual fix. So, if you have not manually gone into your watch apps and confirmed that your apps are up to date (especially Assistant), you might try that first.

But if all else fails, this "nuclear option" of a watch reset worked for me. Here are the two ways to do that.

Reset from the Google Pixel Watch app

  1. On your phone, open the Google Pixel Watch app .
  2. Tap System  Reset and unpair watch.

Reset from your Google Pixel Watch

  1. On Google Pixel Watch, swipe down  tap Settings .
  2. Tap System.
  3. Scroll down and tap Disconnect & reset  Ok
