Pixel Watch 2 gets stuck in setting up when updating the OS

I've been trying for the past 2 hours to set up my watch. I've reinstalled pixel watch app, reset the watch, tried wifi and bluetooth, tried with and without syncing Google account

The watch constantly gets stuck at about 5% of the update and nothing happens. I restart the watch then it forces a reset

It works!

Setup from my phone (Pixel Fold - Android 14 Latest Beta) only took about ~5 minutes to setup since it didn't force me to update my watch

However, I had to skip the Fitbit setup since I got a message saying Fitbit servers are under maintenance. I can sort this part out tomorrow, I'm not worried about it

Everything else aside from Fitbit is working fine!

Try putting your watch in the charger, then start the update. After that, just let it sit there for a bit. If after an hour you don't see any progress, please report back here.

I tried the steps you mentioned, I left it for about ~70 minutes and the progress was at 0%

Let me escalate and ask around. Stay tuned.

I'm not sure if related but apparently Fitbit has network issues for past 2-3 hours (In the UK at least)

I'd assume my updates would come from Google but then again Pixel Watches are built with Fitbit in mind, so maybe this update issue is related?

It could be. I've escalated your case and waiting to hear back. There might be others chiming on this post as well.

If you having issues with updating the watch system during the setup process via the app, perform the update from the watch Settings menu instead.

Keep your watch on the charger and...
  • From the watch face, scroll up and tap Settings
  • Scroll down and tap on System
  • Tap on System Updates
  • Follow the prompts to update the system
  • Open the Watch app. It may prompt you to reset the watch again. Since you've already done the system update where it's gotten stuck before, you should be able to complete the setup without further issues

Let us know if this worked for you.

There isn't a system updates option in watch settings in pixel watch 2?

Settings > System > System updates - what do you see?

@justlvan there is no 'system' option in the watch settings menu. I'm having the same issue, no way to get the update to work and without it, the phone keeps resetting.

Simon 4935 - That's very strange. I just checked mine and it's definitely there. Can you go to your Settings on your watch, scroll down, then screenshot / take a photo of what's shown on your watch?

There was no system updates option for me either while the watch was updating. However I did eventually get the update to load. I had to wipe the watch, uninstall the app from my P8P and forget wifi, turn off Bluetooth. The. I powered the watch on, waited to the pairing screen, turned on Bluetooth, downloaded the app, used the setup prompt to turn on wifi and connect. Then the update worked, but it took seriously 1.5+ hours to update, it didn't look like the loading bar was moving at all for the first 30 minutes.

The watch app still says there was an error and it needs to reset the watch but I'm afraid of attempting that again

@justIvan the update finally worked and now the system option has appeared - it wasn't there before meaning it's not a fix for this issue sadly...

I am going through the same stuff.  I do not have the update option inside the system app if I can get into the phone.

During setup I get to the downloading update section - then it says it fails to connect, and when I hit retry it instantly goes to installing update.  Then it just sits there.  I see the update progress bar move up to like 15% (over a long period of time) and then it reverts back to 0%   my last attempt at this I let it sit overnight so like 6+ hours and still does the same thing.

I have also tried it on my old Pixel 5 with the same results.

I will follow your exact method Captain Shakespeare and hopefullyi t works for me!
