How to Use Google Assistant on your Google Pixel Watch

Set up Google Assistant

Google Pixel Watch has Google Assistant to get proactive help. Use voice to quickly set up alarms, send messages, track health and fitness, and get helpful information. Google Assistant on your Pixel watch 2 and 3 will be enabled as you complete the watch setup flow.

Use Google Assistant

You can activate Google Assistant on Google Pixel Watch in a few ways.1

  • Side button: On Google Pixel Watch, press and hold the side button next to the crown.
  • Hotword: Say "Hey Google" or "Ok Google". Google Pixel Watch must be awake to listen for your hotword.
    • If you didn’t opt-in to "Hey Google" during Watch setup, turn on "Hey Google"
      1. On Google Pixel Watch, tap Settings and then Google and then Assistant.
      2. Turn "Hey Google" on.
      3. Follow the instruction to complete the opt-in flow.
  • Complication: On your watch face, if you have added it as a complication, tap Assistant Assistant.
  • Tile: On your watch face, swipe right 3 times and tap the Assistant tile.
  • Routine: Automate daily routines & tasks with Google Assistant. Available for WearOS 3.5 or newer.

To get ideas, ask "What can you do?" Your Assistant can help you:

Keep in touch

  • Calls: Call Davey.
  • Messages: Send message to Layla.

Manage your calls

  • Screen calls4: You can screen calls automatically on all Pixel phones in the US. For more info refer to ‘Screen your calls before you answer them’. If your watch is connected to your phone, automatically screened calls will appear as incoming screened calls on your watch face.
  • Ask to hold: when receiving a call, tap 3 dots and select Ask to hold. Pixel Watch will pick up the call and let the caller know to hold while you find a quiet space to speak.
    • An option is also available to Find your phone - tap it to ring your phone
Important: Ask to Hold is currently available to Google Pixel Watch 3 when paired and connected to Pixel phones in the US only. Ask to Hold is coming soon to Pixel Watch 2.

Manage your plans

  • Schedule: When is my next meeting?
  • Alarms: Set an alarm for 7 am.
  • List: Add strawberries to my shopping list.

Get directions and answers

  • Navigation: Navigate to the nearest coffee shop.2
  • Weather: What's the weather tomorrow?

Control music

  • Music: Play my workout playlist.
  • Volume: Volume up.

Maintain Google Home

  • Lights: Turn my lights off.3
  • Locks: Lock my front door.3

Track fitness

  • Exercise: Start a run.
  • Live metrics: What's my resting heart rate?
  • Historical metrics: How far did I run last week?

Use the Assistant tile

Easily access your frequent actions with the Assistant tile.

Note: If the Assistant tile is not part of your tile carousel yet, you can add it.

  1. On Google Pixel Watch, swipe right from the watch face to get to the Assistant tile.
  2. Tap on the tile to add an action.
  3. Speak or type your question or command. Tap Confirm .
  4. Tap on the action to use it.

Set up another question or command by tapping Add .

Control smart home devices

Google Pixel Watch can help you control smart home devices like lights and thermostats using Google Assistant.3 Control smart home devices with Google Assistant.

Disable hotword

  1. On Google Pixel Watch, swipe down to access Quick settings.
  2. Tap Settings and then Google and then Assistant Assistant.
  3. Turn off "Hey Google".

Fix Google Assistant issues

Make sure to sign into the same Google Account on both your Watch and Google Pixel Watch app on your phone.

If you can't connect to Google Assistant or send messages on Google Pixel Watch, try the steps in Fix issues with Google Assistant on your watch.

1To use Assistant on your watch, make sure your watch is connected to the phone; or if you are using the watch as a standalone device, you watch needs to have LTE activated or connected to the internet. Google Assistant and some related features are not available in all languages. Data rates may apply.

2Navigation requires the watch to be connected by Bluetooth to paired phone.

3 Internet connection required. Controlling certain devices and features in your home requires compatible smart devices.
