Methods to send or transfer money with the Google Pay app

You can use the forms of payment below for different features of the Google Pay app.

Pay in apps or online Accepted debit cards, credit cards, and Google Pay balance where accepted.

*You can’t use a bank account to send money to someone who:

  • Doesn’t have the new Google Pay app
  • Doesn’t allow people to search for them

You can still send them money with a debit card or your Google Pay balance.

Tip: To add a bank account to send, receive, add, or withdraw money, you need to add it as you perform one of these actions.

Send or receive money with friends and family

You can send money to friends and family with your:

  • Google Pay balance
  • Debit card
  • Bank account
    • You can't use a bank account to send money to someone who doesn't have the new Google Pay app or doesn't allow people to search for them. You can still send them money with a debit card or your Google Pay balance.

Money you receive from friends and family appears as money in Google Pay. If you verified your identity, you can access your Google Pay balance. This can be used to pay friends and family. Learn more about Google Pay balance.

Tip: How long it takes to send or receive money depends on the form of payment used. Some users may experience delays of up to 3–5 business days when they send money through their bank accounts. You can check the status of a transaction on the transaction details page.

Add money to your Google Pay balance

After you verify your identity, you can add money to your Google Pay balance with your bank account. If you haven’t verified your identity, you can’t add money to your Google Pay balance. Learn how to verify your identity.

Tip: Since bank account transfers can take up to 3–5 days, you may want to add money to your Google Pay balance a few days earlier than needed.

Transfer money out of Google Pay

Important: Bank account transfer takes 1–3 business days to complete.

You can transfer money out of Google Pay to a bank account or debit card. There’s a fee of 1.5% fee or $.31 USD (whichever is higher) when you transfer out money with a debit card.
