Check or change your Google News settings

You can control your Google News settings. These settings include your language, region, text size, and whether videos play automatically.

Change settings in app

  1. Open your Google News app Google News app.
  2. At the top right, tap your photo.
  3. Tap Settings Settings.
  4. Tap the setting you want to change.

Available general settings

Depending on your device and app version, you can set your:

  • Preferred language & region
    Pick your place and language.
  • Dark theme
    Use dark colors in place of light colors: always, at night and with battery saver, or with battery saver only.
  • Mini cards
    List stories with smaller images and words.
  • Hidden in For you
    If you’ve chosen to not see a publication, you can choose to see it again.
  • Data saver mode
    Pick when to save mobile data. 
  • Autoplay videos
    Pick whether to play videos automatically always, never, or only on Wi-Fi.
  • Open web pages in Google News
    Let the Google News browser open links from the Google News app.
  • Temperature units
    Pick Fahrenheit, Celsius, or Kelvin.
  • My activity
    See your past activity and adjust what gets saved.
