  • Google Nest Secure customers now have more control to customise how Google Nest Guard and Google Nest Detects participate in security modes. Guard and Detects can sense motion when the alarm is set to Home and guarding Home guard icon. Customers can also customise entry times by door or window. How to change Nest Secure settings.

    Note: If you don't see these new settings in the Nest app, it means that your Guard and Detects haven't received the automatic update yet. If you'd like to manually update your Guard and Detects, see our article about how to get software updates for your Nest products.

  • If you’re a Google Nest Aware subscriber, you can now create and edit Nest camera Activity Zones from your Android phone or tablet. Just select a camera and tap Settings Nest settings icon.   • Support for the Google Nest Temperature Sensor. Control the temperature in the room that is most relevant for you – not just where your thermostat happens to be. Learn about the Nest Temperature Sensor.

  • New options for Nest Secure. Nest Secure users can set the alarm to trigger instantly. And with the new Open tone setting, Nest Guard can make a sound when a door or window is opened.

  • New option for Google Nest Hello. With quiet time, you can turn your home’s indoor chime on and off. Set a duration for how long you would like to mute your chime.

  • The Nest app now supports the Nest Hello video doorbell. Nest Hello lets you know who’s there, so you never miss a visitor or a package delivery. If you have a Google Home, it can tell you when someone's at the door, and even tell you who it is if you have Nest Aware. FAQs about Nest Hello.
  • Support for the Google Nest × Yale lock. Together, Nest and Yale have made a tamper-proof, key-free deadbolt that connects to the Nest app. Now you can lock and unlock your door from anywhere. Turn on Home/Away Assist and auto-lock, and your door can lock itself when you leave. Give people you trust a passcode, instead of a key.   • Nest Cam customers can view a new detailed events list in the camera view. The new list view allows you to filter the events that you want to see: motion, person or familiar face.

Version 5.18 – released 6 February 2018

  • Nest Cam customers with a Nest Aware subscription now have better control over Activity Zone notifications. You can now specify whether or not you want to receive an alert for people detected in a particular Activity Zone or for areas outside all zones. From the notification settings, choose an existing zone and select which types of alert you would like to receive. How to set up Activity Zones.
  • Nest Cam IQ customers with Nest Aware can now merge duplicate familiar faces of the same person within their photo collections. From the familiar face gallery, just select the duplicate face pictures and then tap 'Merge'. Learn about familiar face detection.
  • Installing your Nest thermostat is even easier with the new thermostat wiring guide. This in-app guide provides you with step-by-step instructions for checking that your system is compatible with Nest and also shows you how to connect your new thermostat.

Version 5.17 – released 5 December 2017

  • Now it's easier to find and switch your Nest thermostat to Eco Temperature in the Nest app. We've moved the ECO mode selector to the main toolbar, making it simple to manually switch on Eco Temperature to return to heat/cool mode. You can also set all your thermostats to Eco Temperature at once.

  • Nest Secure alarm events now appear directly in your Nest Cam's Sightline as a red bar so that you can easily see when a security event is triggered.

  • Introducing support for Nest Secure alarm system.A whole new kind of security that’s easy to live with and tough on intruders. Know what's happening at home from anywhere with the Nest app and take meaningful action if there's a security alert. To find out more, take a look at our FAQs about Nest Secure.

    • With just a glance at the Nest app home screen, you’ll know if doors and windows are open or closed, whether the alarm is armed or disarmed, and what security level the alarm system is set to.

    • For deeper control and awareness, use the Nest app to easily arm and disarm the alarm system, know who is coming and going with Family Account integration and event history, and receive a Remind me alert if you leave home and forget to set the alarm. You can even invite guests from the app, sending them an email invitation with unique passcodes and set visiting hours.

    • And if the alarm goes off, you’ll receive a security alert on your phone telling you what triggered the alarm – either a door or window opened, or someone entered a room. Then you can call the police or your emergency contact. When you add Nest Cam security cameras to Nest Secure, you'll see live video feeds directly on the alarm screen so that you can verify what triggered the alarm.

    • Also supporting Google Nest Connect, for customers with larger homes that need to extend the range of Nest Secure alarm system.
  • Coming soon: Support for the new Nest Cam IQ Outdoor security camera, which delivers critical, actionable, intelligent alerts – like spotting someone unfamiliar in the garden.

    • Person alerts are free, straight out of the box, but when you add a Nest Aware subscription, you’ll receive powerful face recognition alerts when family members or friends are detected, or when an unfamiliar person like a stranger or potential burglar is detected.

    • Nest Cam IQ Outdoor also includes Supersight close-up tracking view, automatically zooming in on a person walking across your garden, while still keeping the full picture in view.
  • A note about the KRACK vulnerability: Updating the Nest app on your phone is different from updating the software on your Nest products. Version 5.15 – released 21 September 2017

  • Quickly get help and find answers with our new in-app help chat and knowledge base search. Just tap the menu icon Arrow pointing down in the top-left corner of the Nest app home screen, then tap Support.
  • Now you can assign new Works with Nest partner devices to a specific home. You can also reassign existing devices to a home by selecting Remove all connections, then choosing which home that you want to remove the connection from, and the other home will remain assigned.

Version 5.14 – released 31 August 2017

  • Support for Nest Thermostat E, Nest’s new affordable thermostat with a simple new design. Use the Nest app from your phone, laptop or smartwatch. Nest Thermostat E supports Eco Temperature, Auto-Schedule, Home/Away Assist and voice control with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.
  • Google Nest Protect now speaks native Swedish, Finnish, Norwegian and Danish.
  • Set your Nest app local address in Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Norway or Switzerland.

  • Now it's easier for Nest Cam IQ customers to communicate with family and pets or deter suspicious activity. When you tap the Talk button, you're now able to speak and listen simultaneously, providing two-way conversational audio without having to tap the Done button to hear the person in front of the camera.

  • Nest Cam customers with Nest Aware can create, save and share video clips to their phone, or share them with family and friends from the Nest app.
  • View your Nest Cam video feed in full-screen mode without rotating your phone. Simply tap the down-arrow icon below the camera window.
  • Now you can edit all device notifications settings from the Home settings menu.
  • Have Android TV? Try the new Nest app for Android TV and view all your Nest Cam video feeds directly from your TV.
