Make story time more magical with your speaker or display

Note: This feature is no longer supported. As an alternative, say "Hey Google, tell me a story."

Google Nest and Home speakers and displays can now make story time a little more magical. As you read select books aloud, your speaker or display will play relevant sound effects and music to bring the story to life. To get started, just say "Hey Google, let's read along with Disney.”

Book Titles

This feature works with the following Little Golden Books:

  • Aladdin
  • Lion King
  • Frozen
  • Frozen 2

How it works

Once your speaker or display is set up, you can begin when you say “Hey Google, read along with…” and the title of the book you’ll read. The microphone will stay on while you read, but commands, searches and answers will be disabled. You can say “Hey Google, stop” anytime. Your speaker or display will seamlessly adjust to match wherever you are in the story. If you pause for any reason, ambient music will play and the microphone will stay on for about a minute until you’re ready to begin again.

Note: The microphone must be on for this feature to work.

Exit Story mode

Your speaker or display will turn off the mic and exit the read along experience if:

  • The end of the story is detected.
  • There is about a minute pause in the reading of the story.
  • You say "Hey Google, stop."

At the end of the story, your speaker or display will play an ending chime.

Note: You can resume the reading session within 5 minutes of pause when you say "Hey Google, resume read along."

Protect your data

Though the mic is on throughout the read along experience to allow this feature to work, Google will not store the audio data after the story is completed. You can always check all your data at myactivity.google.com.
