Send information from your speaker or display to your phone

Google Assistant on your Google Nest or Home speaker or display can send information to your phone and help you find out more about the topic. This includes things such as directions, traffic information and sports standings.

This feature is currently available in the US, Canada, UK, Australia, India, Singapore, Germany and Japan.

Note: If Digital Wellbeing is enabled, this feature may be restricted or blocked by Downtime, Filters or Do Not Disturb.

Step 1. Get started with the Google Assistant app

Download and set up the Google Assistant app. If you've already used the Google Assistant app, skip to the next step.

Step 2. Make sure that your phone and speaker or display are signed into the same Google Account

On your Android device

Tap Settings Settings  Accounts  make sure that your Google Account is listed, or else tap Add account.

With the Google Home app

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. At the top right, tap your account.
  3. Verify that the Google Account shown is the one linked to your speaker or display. To switch accounts, tap another account or Add another account.

Step 3. Turn on notifications

Speakers

  1. Make sure that your mobile device or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi or linked to the same account as your Google Nest or Home speaker or display.
  2. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  3. Tap your speaker.
  4. In the top-right corner, tap Settings .
  5. Under 'More,' tap Recognition and personalisation.
  6. To turn on notifications, first turn on Allow personal results.
  7. Scroll down, then choose how you want your personal results to appear.
  8. To turn on notifications, tap Always show proactively. If you want to turn off notifications, tap Never show proactively.

Displays

  1. Make sure that your mobile device or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi or linked to the same account as your Google Nest display.
  2. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  3. Tap your display.
  4. In the top-right corner, tap Settings  and then Recognition and sharing and then Recognition and personalisation.
  5. To turn on notifications, first turn on Allow personal results.
  6. Scroll down, then choose how you want your personal results to appear.
  7. To turn on notifications, tap Always show proactively. If you want to turn off notifications, tap Never show proactively.

Step 4. Set up Voice Match on your speaker or display

If you’re the only person using the device, you can skip this step. If multiple people are using the speaker or display, each person needs to set up Voice Match to get information on their phone.

Anyone who hasn't set up Voice Match can't send information to phones.

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. At the top right, tap your account.
  3. Verify that the Google Account shown is the one linked to your speaker or display. To switch accounts, tap another account or Add another account.
  4. Tap Assistant settings  Voice Match  Add devices.
  5. Make sure that any devices to which you want to link your voice are ticked.
  6. Tap Next  I agree.
  7. Follow the in-app steps.
  8. To get your personal information, you must turn on personal results. Tap I agree and proceed with the Voice Match setup.
  9. To invite others to set up Voice Match for tailored results, tap Invite  choose your communication method and send the invitation. To skip this step, tap No thanks.

Step 5. Send information to your phone

After your Google Assistant responds to your initial query, say "Hey Google, send this to my phone".

Note: If you ask for things on your speaker or display where your phone or a screen would be helpful, your Assistant will send the information to your phone automatically. This includes things such as directions, traffic information and sports standings.

Supported features

You can send information on these features to your phone:

Calendar information

  • Say 'Hey Google, what’s on my agenda?' and then 'Send to my phone'.

Shopping list

  • Say "Hey Google, what’s on my shopping list?" and then “Send to my phone.”

Weather

  • Say "Hey Google, what’s the weather in Paris next week?” and then "Send to my phone".

Sports standings and schedules

  • Say "Hey Google, how are the Giants doing?" and then “Send to my phone.”

Movies

  • Say "Hey Google, what movies are playing nearby?" and then "Send to my phone".

Lists

  • Say "Hey Google, attractions in San Francisco" and then "Send to my phone".

Images and photos

  • Say "Hey Google, pictures of Elvis Presley" and then "Send to my phone".

Translations

  • Say "Hey Google, How do you say, 'Hello' in Japanese?" and then "Send to my phone".

Finance information

  • Say "Hey Google, stock price of Google" and then “Send to my phone.”

Directions

  • Say "Hey Google, how do I get to Costco?" and then "Send to my phone".

Traffic

  • Say "Hey Google, how long is my commute?" and then "Send to my phone".

Step 6. Get information on your phone

If you’ve activated Assistant on your phone and have notifications turned on, you’ll get a notification on your phone. For more information, tap on the notification. If you don't need the information or notification any more, you can swipe it away.

Note: Unread notifications remain on your phone for 24 hours.

Fix a problem

If you're not getting information on your phone, try the steps below:

  1. Make sure that you've activated your Assistant.
  2. Make sure that you've requested information on a supported feature. Music, alarms and timers are a few features that can't be sent to your phone.
  3. Make sure that your phone and speaker or display are signed in to the same Google Account.
  4. Make sure that notifications are turned on.
  5. If multiple people are using the speaker or display, make sure that you've linked your Google Account and voice. If your Assistant can't recognise your voice, it can't send information to your phone.
