If your device doesn't appear during the setup process, try these steps.
First, make sure:
- You're using the most recent version of the Google Home app .
- The speaker or display is plugged in and powered on.
- You can tell that Google Home, Google Nest Mini (2nd gen), Google Home Mini (1st gen), Google Home Max, or Google Nest Audio is powered on and in setup mode when the white LED lights are blinking.
- You are in the same room as the device.
- If you're using an iOS device, turn on Bluetooth.
- On the home screen, tap Settings Bluetooth.
- Make sure the slider is On (toggled to the right and green).
- Close Settings and return to the Google Home app .
- If you're using an Android device, turn on Location services.
- On your Android device, tap Settings .
- Tap Security & Location Location Use location return to home screen.
- Tap Settings Apps & notifications Google Home app Permissions.
- Next to "Location," make sure the slider is On (toggled to the right and blue).
If you've checked off all of the steps above and you still can't find your speaker or display, try one of the steps below and then look for your device. If you still can't find it, move to the next step.
Step 1. Reboot your speaker or display
- Disconnect the power cable from your speaker or display.
- Reconnect the power cable back into your speaker or display.
Step 2. Force close and reopen the Google Home app
Step 3. Connect to your device from your phone or tablet's Wi-Fi settings
- Open the Wi-Fi settings on your mobile device.
- Check the list of available Wi-Fi networks and look for an available network such as "GoogleHomeXXXX" (where XXXX is a random number).
- Note: If you have previously set up your device and have not factory reset it since it got kicked off of the network, look for the name of the device that you assigned to it in the list of available networks on your mobile device (Example: Kitchen Home).
- If you can successfully connect to the Google Nest or Home SSID (network name) in your Wi-Fi settings, open the Google Home app and then set up the device again.
If you're still unable to find your speaker or display in the Google Home app, try the following:
- Use another supported mobile device to set up the Google Nest or Home speaker or display.
- Move the speaker or display to a different location. This will rule out any interference in the area which may be causing the SSID to not broadcast properly.
- Perform a factory reset.
- On your mobile device or tablet, turn Wi-Fi off and then back on. Reopen the Google Home app and try to set up again.
