Google Home app can't find Nest Wifi or Google Wifi devices

If your router or point isn’t found in the setup list in the app, it might not have been ready for setup, or you might have had a temporary connection issue. If the device has been set up before, it might require a factory reset.

Note: When your router or point is ready for setup, the LED light will slowly pulse white if you have Nest Wifi or blue if you have Google Wifi.

This article covers troubleshooting steps for Google Nest Wifi and Google Wifi setup issues. If you want to set up a different device, you can find the instructions in Set up smart devices in the Google Home app.

  1. Close the Google Home app , then try setup again.
  2. If you’re using an iPhone or iPad, open the device’s Settings app.
    1. Tap Bluetooth and then turn on Bluetooth.
    2. Tap Privacy and then Local network and then turn on 'Local network' for the Google Home app .
  3. Disconnect your router or point from power and then reconnect to power and then wait until the light slowly pulses either white or blue and then start setup.
    • Make sure that the power adaptor is connected to a working wall socket.
  4. If the device uses an Ethernet cable, check the connection. Note:
    1. Google Nest Wifi points don’t have Ethernet ports.
    2. Make sure that the cable is connected both to your modem and router or point.
    3. Make sure that the modem is powered on.
    4. If you have a TP-Link OnHub, you’ll need to twist the outer shell anticlockwise, then lift to reveal the ports.
  5. For Nest Wifi routers and Google Wifi points, open your phone’s Wi-Fi settings, then find the Wi-Fi network that matches the sticker on the bottom of your device. Connect to this network using the setup code on the bottom of your device as the password, then return to the app to continue setup.
  6. If your router or point still doesn’t appear in the app, factory reset your device and then wait for the light to slowly pulse white (Nest Wifi) or blue (Google Wifi) and then start setup again.
    • Note: A factory reset can take up to 10 minutes. Make sure that you wait until the process is complete before you start setup.
