Use Nest Wifi and Google Wifi devices on the same network

If you have both Nest Wifi and Google Wifi devices (this does not include Google Nest Wifi Pro with Wi-Fi 6E), they can be combined in the same network and will work together to provide Wi-Fi throughout your home. There are a few options depending on whether you want to add a Google Wifi device to a Nest Wifi network, or a Nest Wifi device to a Google Wifi network.

With Nest Wifi and Google Wifi, you can mix and match any of the following, including multiples of each to create your own network:

  • Nest Wifi routers
  • Nest Wifi points
  • Google Wifi points

Nest Wifi Pro (Wi-Fi 6E) can't be combined with Nest Wifi routers or points or Google Wifi points (Wi-Fi 5) in a mesh network.

To use a Nest Wifi point as part of your Wi-Fi network, you need to add it after setting up at least one Nest Wifi router or Google Wifi point.

For new networks:

  • All devices need to be set up in the Google Home app.
  • If you include a Nest Wifi router, we recommend this be the first device you set up. Otherwise, use a Google Wifi point.

For existing networks:

  • All devices need to be set up in the Google Home app. Learn what happens when you add Google Wifi devices and settings to the Google Home app.
  • You can add any of these devices as an add-on point.
  • If you want to use a Nest Wifi router, we recommend setting it up first. You’ll need to factory reset your Google Wifi network through the app, and then set up a new network. Learn more about how to replace your Wi-Fi network. If you don’t want to take advantage of improved speed and coverage of the Nest Wifi router, you can add your Nest Wifi router as an additional point.

Set up your network with Nest Wifi and Google Wifi devices

Nest Wifi router, with or without Nest Wifi point(s)

If you have a Nest Wifi router, you can do either of the following:

(Recommended) Option 1: Set up a new network with Nest Wifi as your primary router and Google Wifi or Nest Wifi point as a network extender

For the best possible Wi-Fi range and network speed, we recommend using your Nest Wifi router as the primary point in your combined Wi-Fi network. You can then add Google Wifi and/or Nest Wifi points to the new network for additional Wi-Fi coverage.

Select the set of instructions that applies to your network setup:

I want to add Nest Wifi and Google Wifi to a brand new network.

If you're setting up a brand new network and haven't previously set up any Wifi devices, follow the steps to set up Nest Wifi.

Tip: Set up your Nest Wifi router first then add Nest Wifi devices or Google Wifi devices as additional points to create your mesh network.

If you've previously set up a Nest Wifi network, you can add Google Wifi points by following the steps to add a point.

Option 2: Add Nest Wifi router to an existing Google Wifi network

With this option, you'll add your Nest Wifi router as an add-on point to extend the coverage of your existing Google Wifi network. This option doesn't take advantage of the improved range and speed of the Nest Wifi router, but it allows you to keep your current Wi-Fi network settings and custom schedules.
