Create home automation scripts with AI

Help me script is an experimental feature for script editor that uses generative AI capabilities to help you write scripted automations for your home. With this feature, you can describe the automation you want, and it will generate a script for you to edit and use.

The use of generative AI with the script editor is still experimental. It's available on Google Home for web as part of the Public Preview for a limited time.

Help me script works best when prompts are written in English. Home automations require the use of supported smart devices. Devices need to be added in the Google Home app to the home where you want to create the Routine.

Important: All household members can see when these Routines run. Routines are for convenience only, not safety- or security-critical use cases. Do not create Routines that could result in injury or harm if they fail to start or stop. Routines can depend on working internet, Wi-Fi, and service availability from both Google and the third parties who manufacture the devices included in Routines. Routines may not always work, and Google is not responsible for any harm or losses incurred as a result of any failed Routines.

How to draft automation scripts using AI

This feature is experimental. Scripts generated with this feature may not work as created or could have unexpected results. Check and test all parts of the script for errors including device names, that the script will work as intended, and edit it where necessary before activating and running a script written by Help me script.

  1. Open home.google.com/automations and sign in to your account.
  2. Click Add new.
  3. On the right of the screen, under "Help me script," tap Try it.
  4. Read and accept the terms and conditions.
    • Optionally, you can also allow Google to use your interactions and script outputs to help improve Google's generative AI models, products, and services.
  5. Describe the automation you want to make.
  6. Click Copy and paste the automation into your script.
  7. Edit the script to make sure that it works as you intend and is free from errors.
  8. Click Validate to verify your script is able to run. You can't activate an automation with errors.
  9. Click Save to add your automation to your home or save in-progress work. If your script is valid when you save it, your automation automatically activates. If you don't want it to run yet, turn Activate off.

If you opted in to sharing your data with Google, you can opt out any time. Note: Data that has already been used and disconnected from your account cannot be deleted.
