Control your lock with the Google Home app

You can use both the Google Home app and the Nest app to control the Nest x Yale Lock. The Home app also lets you control Works with Google locks.

Learn how to lock and unlock the Nest × Yale Lock

Important:

  • Your Activity history lasts up to 60 days. Learn how to access your Activity history.
  • If a family member leaves your home in the Google Home app, their activity history might still be available to other members for up to 60 days.

What you need

  • A home you manage in the Nest app
  • Your Google Account or a migrated Nest account
  • The latest version of the Google Home app and your device’s OS

Lock or Unlock

  1. Open the Google Home app .
  2. Tap Home  and then All devices .
  3. To lock or unlock your device, tap the device tile.

The app will show whether the lock is currently locked or unlocked. To see details like the lock's name, location, and when it was last locked, tap on the lock.

Auto-lock and One Touch locking features can be found in the Device options below.

Device options

To change settings on your lock with the Google Home app:

  1. Open the Google Home app .
  2. Tap Home  and then All devices , then touch and hold your device's tile.
  3. To access the lock’s details, tap Settings .

You can change your device’s name, assign it to a different room, and control the following settings.

Lock tone volume
To change the lock’s tone volume, select the volume setting you prefer. You can choose low, high, or off.
Auto-Lock timer
By default, the Nest × Yale Lock will not automatically lock itself, but you can enable automatic locking. You can choose how long your lock should wait before it automatically locks. Tap your choice of timer under “Auto-Lock timer.”
One touch locking
One touch locking lets you lock the door from the outside with just one touch. If this option is enabled, you can touch the lock keypad to lock instead of entering a passcode.
One-tap unlock
Important: You need to create a passcode to enable One-tap unlock. For Matter lock instructions, refer to Passcode creation.
When enabled, One-tap unlock conveniently stores your passcode on your mobile device so that you don't need to enter it every time.

Reset One-tap unlock

You can reset the One-tap unlock passcode once you turn it off. This clears any previously saved passcodes for One-tap unlock and will require you to add a new one if it’s reactivated.

  1. Open the Google Home app .
  2. Tap Home  and then All devices , then touch and hold your device's tile.
  3. Tap Settings .
  4. Turn off One-tap unlock, then turn it on again.
Passcode creation

Important: This feature works for compatible Matter locks and the Nest x Yale lock.

There are two kinds of passcodes that you can create and access:

  • Personal passcodes: You can create and update your own passcode.
    • Important: You cannot delete your personal passcode, only change it.
  • Guest passcodes: Create passcodes for your guests. These passcodes can either be indefinite or on a schedule. They can share that passcode with the guest by text or email, so they know how to unlock the lock. You can revoke or edit schedules for guest passcodes.

Create a passcode for your locks with these steps:

  1. Open the Google Home app .
  2. Tap Home  and then All devices , then touch and hold your device's tile.
  3. Tap Access.
    • You can also tap Add Add Icon to create a guest passcode. Guest passcodes can provide scheduled access for compatible locks.
  4. Tap the device you want to create a passcode for.
  5. Set a 4- to 8-digit passcode.
    • Tip: For Matter Locks, turn on Enable one-tap unlock by saving on this passcode.
  6. Tap Save and then Share or Copy and then Done. A confirmation that a passcode has been created will be sent to your inbox.
