How it works
Once your Google Home is set up, you can begin by saying “Hey Google, read along with…” and the title of the book you’re going to read. The microphone will stay on while you read, but commands, searches, and answers will be disabled. You can say “Okay Google, stop” anytime. Google Home will seamlessly adjust to match wherever you are in the story. If you pause for any reason, ambient music will play and the microphone will stay on for about a minutes until you’re ready to begin again.
Note: The microphone must be on for this feature to work.
Exit Story Mode
Google Home will turn off the mic and exit the read along experience if:
- The end of the story is detected
- There is about a minute pause in the reading of the story
- You say “Hey Google, stop.
At the end of the story, Google Home will play an ending chime.
Note: You can resume the reading session within five minutes of pausing by saying “Hey Google, resume read along.”
Protecting your DataThough the mic is on throughout the read along experience to allow this feature to work, Google will not store the audio data after the story is completed. You can always see all your data at myactivity.google.com.
