Listen to news
With Google Home, you can listen to top headlines, get the latest on a certain category of news (like sports, weather, business, tech, etc.), or ask about a specific news item.
Ask for the news
Here are some ways to talk with your Google Assistant on Google Home when choosing and listening to news reports and headlines:

Other ways to control news
You can also control music by touching the top surface of Google Home or by using the Google Home app.

Turn up the volume |
Swipe clockwise on the top of the device. Note: This only adjusts the volume of media. You can adjust alarms and timers volume anytime in the the Google Home app. |

Turn down the volume |
Swipe counterclockwise on the top of the device. Note: This only adjusts the volume of media and your Google Assistant. At volume level 0, all media will be muted but your Google Assistant will still speak at a minimum level. It doesn’t adjust the volume of alarms and timers. |

Mic on/off |
Press the microphone mute button on the back of the device Note: Muting the microphone prevents Google Home from listening or responding. To interact with Google Home, the microphone must be on. |

Factory Data Reset (FDR) the device | Press and hold the FDR button located on the back of Google Home. | |
Turn off power | Unplug power cable from Google Home. |

Press and hold (long press) either side of Mini.

Stop a ringing alarm or timer |
Tap either side of Mini.

Turn up the volume |
Tap on right side of Mini. To reach maximum volume, tap to volume level 10. Note: This only adjusts the volume of media and your Google Assistant. At volume level 0, all media will be muted but your Google Assistant will still speak at a minimum level. It doesn’t adjust the volume of alarms and timers. |

Turn down the volume |
Tap on left side of Mini. 10 total taps will mute all audio except your Google Assistant. Note: This only adjusts the volume of media and your Google Assistant. At volume level 0, all media will be muted but your Google Assistant will still speak at a minimum level. It doesn’t adjust the volume of alarms and timers. |

Turn mic on/off |
Toggle the mic on/off switch found next to the power cable. The switch will display orange when the microphone is turned off. Note: Turning off the microphone prevents Google Home from listening or responding. To interact with Google Home, the microphone must be on. |

Factory Data Reset (FDR) the device |
Press and hold the FDR button located below the power cable on the bottom of Mini. Look for a circle etched into the base. Hold for about 12 seconds. |

Turn off power | Unplug the power cable from Mini. | |
Start your request |
Note: You can't press and hold the top of Mini to start a request with your Assistant. Instead, say "Ok Google" to start your request. |

Horizontal placement: Tap the line located on the top of Max. Vertical placement: Tap the line located on the right side of Max.

Turn mic on/off |
Toggle the mic on/off switch located on the back of Max. The switch will display orange when the microphone is turned off. You can’t use your voice or the Google Home app to turn on/off the mic. Note: Turning off the microphone:

Press and hold the FDR button located above the power cable on the back of Max. Look for a small grey button. Hold for about 12 seconds. |

- Make sure that your mobile device or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi as your Google Home device.
- Open the Google Home app

, the Google Home device.
- On the device card, you will see the newscast and title that is currently playing.
- You can stop, pause, resume and adjust the volume of the newscast from the device card – the same way that you control your music.

Set your default news services on Google Home- Open the Google Home app

At the bottom-right corner of the Home screen, tap Account

- Tap Settings
Services tab
News.
To change the order of the list:
- Tap Change order
hold the hashmark
next to the news source. Drag the news source up or down.
To customise this list:
- To add a news source, tap Add news sources
tap the tick mark next to the sources that you want to add.
- To remove a news source, tap the X next to the source that you want to remove.
- Tap the down arrow next to the name of the current Google Account that is logged in.
- If the account that you want to link is listed in the drop-down menu, select it.
- If you need to link a brand new Google Account, then proceed to next step.
- Tap Manage accounts

Troubleshooting
If you're not hearing the news you expect,
- Make sure that you've chosen your default news services.
- Be more specific with your request.
