Manager account access permission error in Google Ads Editor - Known Issue
0
Hi Google Ads users!

We’ve heard from some Google Ads Manager Account users that they’ve received an error message in Google Ads Editor saying “You don’t have permission to modify this account” when trying to post changes, even though they do have the required access.

We’ve listed the steps below that you can take in Editor to help solve this problem.

Issue Summary

Google Ads Manager Account users may encounter a “You don’t have permission to modify this account” error message in Google Ads Editor, if they have “Read Only” access via one of their ways to access the account (either directly or via a manager account).

Some common scenarios where this issue can happen include:
  • Access via manager account and directly on account: If a user is trying to modify a Google Ads account in Editor where they have both “Read Only” access via their manager account and “Administrative” access directly on the Google Ads account, the user may receive this error message even though they have “Administrative” access directly on the account.
  • Access via Multiple manager accounts: If a user is trying to modify a Google Ads account where they have “Read Only” access via one manager account and “Administrative” access via a different manager account, the user may receive this error message.

Issue Solution

To resolve this issue, make sure you are using Editor version 1.4.3 or later (download from here) and follow these steps:
  1. Click Accounts to open the accounts manager.
  2. Click Add.
  3. Enter the email address and password you use to login to Google Ads, then click Next.
  4. In the list of accounts that appears, the account for which you have this issue will appear multiple times. Check the box next to the listing of the account where you have access to modify the account.
    • For example, if you have “Read Only” access to your account via your manager account and also “Administrative” access directly on the account, you’ll see one listing for your account under your manager account and one listing for the account by itself.
    • In this scenario, make sure the box is checked next to the account listing that’s by itself, where you have “Administrative” access. Here’s an example of what this might look like:
  5. Click OK and continue adding your account.
