Redirect landing page based on referral 0 Recommended Answers 6 Replies 63 Upvotes

Hello,

First of all I understand java redirects are not allowed for adwords. But after looking at analytics of my site, I see many people reach my page without a referral domain, meaning that they probably clicked my ad once in the past, and now when they are starting to type my domain name at the browser, it automatically completes it to the landing page full domain path.The problem is the landing page of adwords is not my home page.

So I was wondering, if I setup redirect based on referral -that is do not redirect if user coming from google(clicked my ad), but do redirect to home page if referral is null(direct) - would this be considered breaking ads policy?

Thanks

Redirect is allowed as long as the landing page is the final destination the user lands on

If the user doesn't come from Google Ads (and is direct traffic), I don't see how Google Ads policies could even apply so I don't think that's a concern.

The destination URL is the final URL after all redirects. This is the policy

@MosheTLV If you read the question carefully:
...if I setup redirect based on referral -that is do not redirect if user coming from google(clicked my ad), but do redirect to home page if referral is null(direct)...

The OP is asking if redirecting direct traffic with no referrer (whether from autocomplete, a bookmark, or a developer testing his work, etc.) would violate Google's policies and I don't see how it could even be applicable.

Am I missing something?

@Adam Powell 8076
The OP question was:
>>"So I was wondering, if I setup redirect based on referral -that is do not redirect if user coming from google(clicked my ad), but do redirect to home page if referral is null(direct) - would this be considered breaking ads policy?

And since the redirect is not to the landing page of the campaign - this is not allowed.

If you import Analytics goals into Google Ads, Google will know if they clicked on your ad in the last 30 days, and will assign conversions to ad clicks - regardless of what the source says in Analytics
