Definition of Average Monthly Search Volume in Keyword Planner (Exact, Broad, Phrase)

Hi,
I am seeking clarity on average search volume figure google ads is showing in keyword planner.

Question: The avg. search volume number shown in the keywords planner against each keyword is for which match type? Exact, Broad or Phrase.

I tried looking for answers in the support, but there is no clear instruction given by google.

Google has never said.

The presumption is exact, as in the data is for search queries, not keywords.

My rule of thumb is to double it for mispellings and extensions, to get how many impressions an exact would get.

However, you don't need to know. How would you do anything differently if it was 300K or 600K?

It matters a lot, lets say I am planning to generate 10000 leads for my client and and assuming volume to lead ratio is 3%. I only need a keyword with 350K volume per/month and I don't need to bid of on any other keyword and only one keyword is sufficient.

If volume is not enough then I keep adding keywords until enough search volume pool is created.

You don't yet know - Quality Score and CTR and CPC

Also, that keyword is unlikely to be the best one.

Also, the Planner tends not to show variations that include a location, unless you specify it - and they convert the best usually.

Ther planner is an estimate with a broad margin of error;
To my recollection,  about 10 years ago,  Google said that it was based on "exact"; however, "exact" is no longer "exact" (per se).
 I would say this includes all match types that the keyword (not a synonym) triggered the ad.
