The asset report lists each asset used in a Performance Max campaign and allows you to compare performance across a variety of assets. Over time, you'll be able to make strategic decisions about your assets, such as which ones to rotate, remove or improve. This report helps you focus on creating assets that deliver better performance. It also gives you an indication of when to create new assets that drive better performance based on similar assets.

What you’ll find in your asset group report

Filters and download

If you have a long list of assets, you can filter by asset type, policy approval status and performance. You can also expand your report view or download the report.

Assets

In the 'Asset' column, you’ll find:

  • The content of each asset, such as text or an image thumbnail
  • Asset dimensions for images, if applicable

Status

In the 'Status' column, you can find any policy violations for your assets. You can review those violations by hovering over the 'Status' column to learn more about the policy violation. To correct the policy issue, go to the 'Asset groups' section and use the 'Edit assets' link.

Asset type

The 'Asset type' column defines how each asset is used. Here are the assets that you can find:

  • Description
  • Headline
  • Long headline
  • Image
  • Logo
  • YouTube video
Note: Assets should be compared by asset type. For example, a 'low' rating for an image isn't the same as 'low' for a headline.

Performance

The 'Performance' column ranks assets' performance against other assets of the same type. To improve your campaign’s performance, you can replace low-performing assets with similar high-performing assets. It isn’t recommended to delete low-performing assets without replacing them, as this may limit ads served by your campaign. This column shows you which assets of the same type are:

  • Low, as in low performing against all other assets of the same type across properties.
  • Good, as in it performs well enough against all other assets of the same type.
  • Best, as in one of the highest performers of all assets of the same type on one or more properties.

You may also find the following values in the performance column:

  • Pending is shown when the asset has just been uploaded and not yet scored. You can check again later for the asset’s performance.
  • Not enough data status implies that there either isn’t enough data because the asset is newly created or edited or the system is still learning. The rating can also appear when there aren’t enough assets for comparison. You can check again later or review campaign optimisation actions like budget opportunities to make sure that an asset is being served more.
  • Not Applicable is shown when the asset is an HTML5 asset, an automatically created asset, or is disapproved.

Source

The 'Source' column indicates whether an asset was uploaded by an advertiser or is automatically created, such as Enhanced by Google.

  • Advertiser: The asset has been provided by the Advertiser.
  • Enhanced by Google: Automated variations are provided of your asset in different aspect ratios to maximise performance on vertical friendly surfaces like YouTube Shorts.
  • Automatically created: Google automatically creates unique assets to maximise performance for a given context, such as a specific search query.
