Edit your Local campaign

Local campaigns will be automatically upgraded to Performance Max starting in August. Upgrade Local campaigns yourself in the coming months using the new, one-click tool to unlock additional inventory and formats that reach new customers. Learn more.

Once you set up a Local campaign, you can advertise your store across many of Google’s networks. You may also want to make changes to improve your campaign's performance or to adapt to shifts in your business needs.

This article goes over how to review and edit your campaign’s settings.

Before you begin

If you have not yet created your Local campaign visit Create a local campaign, which contains the steps to create and access your campaign, select your campaign settings, and connect to a local product feed

Edit your local campaign

Edit assets

  1. Sign in to your Google Ads account.
  2. Click Local campaigns from the navigation panel.
  3. Click Ad groups from the page menu.
  4. Click the name of the ad group you want to edit assets for.
  5. You can review your assets at a glance on the "Ad assets" page.
    • You can also click preview tabs to see how your ad looks in Google Maps, Display, Search, or on YouTube.
  6. To edit, click the pencil icon Edit above the asset list.
  7. On the "Ad assets" page, you can edit, replace, or remove any of the assets, including:
    • Final URL
    • Display path
    • Headline
    • Description
    • Call to action
    • Images
    • Videos
  8. Click Save and continue.

Edit audiences

It is recommended to target your Local campaign to a broad audience, and Local campaigns will automatically optimize for offline conversions.
  1. Click Audiences in the page menu to view the audience lists for your campaign.
  2. Click the pencil icon Edit or on Audiences at the bottom.
  3. Click the pencil icon Edit to browse your ad groups.
  4. Select an ad group, and then select one of the ad group’s audiences.
  5. Click Save.

Exclude locations

Geographic radius targeting will be inferred based on the physical business locations specified for your campaign. If needed, you can exclude certain geographic locations from your campaign.

  1. From the navigation panel, click the name of the campaign or campaign type you are excluding locations from.
  2. From the page menu, click Locations to view and edit the campaign's locations.
  3. Click the Excluded tab to view your campaign's excluded locations.
  4. Click the pencil icon Edit or Edit locations to make location exclusions.
  5. Fill out the “Enter locations to exclude” field and select from the list that populates as you type.
    • To exclude multiple locations, click Add locations in bulk. You can place one city, postal code, country, etc. per line and click Search to find the specific location. You can then click Exclude for each location to exclude, or Exclude all to exclude every result from your search.
  6. Click Save to confirm your location and add it to the list.
Note: To exclude locations in bulk, you'll need to use Google Ads Editor.

Edit location group

  1. From the navigation panel, click the name of the campaign or campaign type you are editing a location group for.
  2. From the page menu, click Settings.
  3. Click the Location type card to expand it.
  4. Click the drop-down menu next to “Choose locations for this campaign” and select Use location groups.
  5. Select Use location groups or Create a location group to set the location groups for the campaign.
    • For “Use location groups”:
      1. Use the search bar to search for the groups you want to apply.
      2. Select the groups to apply by checking the boxes next to the names of the groups.
      3. Click Save.
    • For “Create a location group”:
      1. Input a name for the group in the “Location group name” box.
      2. Use the search bar to search locations for your new group.
      3. Select the locations for the group by checking the boxes next to the locations.
      4. Click Save to create your group and apply it to your campaign.
