Copy and paste ads, ad groups, keywords and campaigns

Instead of creating new ads, keywords, ad groups and campaigns every time that you want to improve your account, you can save time and work by copying your existing ads, ad groups, keywords and campaigns. For example, you could copy an existing campaign to use it as a template for a new campaign, or you could copy a keyword list from one ad group to another so that you have a head start on building your new ad group’s keyword list.

Copy campaigns

If you’ve already set up a successful campaign, you can use it to get a head start when setting up your next campaign. To do this, copy the campaign, then modify one of the copies. That way you start with the same structure and settings for your ad groups, ads and keywords.

To duplicate a campaign:

  1. Sign in to your Google Ads account.
  2. From the navigation menu on the left, click All campaigns.
  3. From the page menu on the left, click Campaigns.
  4. Select the box next to the campaign that you'd like to duplicate.
  5. From the Edit drop-down menu, select Copy (or Control-C for PCs, Command-C for Macs).
  6. Click the clipboard icon to paste (or Control-V for PCs, Command-V for Macs).
    1. Optional: In the dialogue box that appears, select the box next to Pause new campaigns after pasting to create new campaigns that are paused. If you don't select this box, any copies of campaigns that were active when copied will be active when pasted.
  7. Click Paste.

You'll now have a new campaign that will have the same structure and settings as your original campaign (including your targeting settings, bid strategies, negative keywords, and more). However, it will not have any campaign, keyword, ad history or statistics. If you want to keep both campaigns active, we recommend keeping your original campaign running (so that it continues with the history that it’s already generated) and modifying the new campaign.

Copy keywords

To copy keywords from an ad group in a Search Network campaign:

  1. Sign in to your Google Ads account.
  2. From the navigation menu on the left, click All campaigns.

  6. Click on the ad group where you’d like to paste the copied keywords.
  7. Click the clipboard icon to paste (or Control-V for PCs, Command-V for Macs).

  8. Click Paste.

When you copy keywords, they'll use the budget of the campaign that you paste them into. You also have the option to copy their bids and landing page URLs, as well as the option to copy their bids and landing page URL overrides, if they exist. Otherwise, you can set bids and landing page URLs for these keywords after you've pasted them.

Tip

  • You can copy and paste multiple campaigns, ad groups, ads and keywords at the same time. To do this, follow the instructions for copying, but instead of selecting the box next to just one campaign, ad group, ad or keyword, select multiple.
