About NFL Sunday Ticket lineup targeting

When you book NFL Lineup through reserved media placements on YouTube, a limited set of targeting options are supported to help you maximize your campaign’s performance and limit the risk of under delivery. This article explains the supported targeting options that you can apply and the targeting restrictions that you should take note of.


How it works

The NFL lineup (US only) offers advertisers access to NFL content on YouTube and YouTube TV with a highly engaged and expanded audience spanning live NFL games (including NFL Sunday ticket games), highlights, analysis, behind the scenes content, and more.

When you select the NFL Lineup (shown as “NFL Football (US)”) from the Placement targeting section during campaign construction, only a limited set of additional targeting options will be supported to ensure that your campaign runs smoothly. Note that due to the nature of live sports games, your campaign isn’t expected to deliver evenly. There may be some days when your campaign may deliver more impressions than other days.

Supported targeting options

The following targeting options are supported when NFL Sunday Ticket lineup is selected:

  • Age: We recommend a minimum of 2 buckets for more age targeting, For example, 18+, 18-34, 25-44, 35-54, 45-64, 55+.
  • Gender: This defaults to no targeting if not selected.
  • Location: Your campaign must target at least 5 states.
    • Note: Location targeting is limited only within the United States. Designated market area (DMA) and zip code level targeting aren’t supported.
  • Campaign flight dates: Your campaign duration must be at least 2 weeks long.

Discouraged targeting

The following targeting options are strongly discouraged when NFL Lineup is selected and will likely cause underdelivery if used:

  • Languages
  • Devices
  • Ad schedule
    • Note: Displaying ads or changing bids during certain times for NFL lineups is not allowed.
  • Demographics
    • Parental status
    • Household income
  • Audience segments
  • Segment exclusions
  • Channel exclusions
  • Topic exclusions

Ad formats and category restrictions

NFL Lineup bookings are available to the following video ad formats: 

  • Non-skippable in-stream ads
  • Skippable in-stream ads
  • Bumper ads

The following categories are not available through Instant Reserve on the NFL Lineup:

  • Politics
  • Gambling
  • Pharmaceuticals
  • Other prohibited categories that have a high risk of under delivery due to content restrictions
