Before you begin
To generate reports with Google AI, you may need to enter prompts to describe the output you want. To optimise your reports, use natural language that targets the specific metrics that you’d like to view. Review the best practices in this article for examples of strong prompts.
If your prompts aren’t generating the reports you’d like, or if you’d like to tailor your reports, review the invalid prompts in this article to learn how to revise and optimise your language.

Best practices
The Google Ads report generator needs specific prompts to generate detailed reports for you to use. Keep these in mind when creating your prompt to make the best use of the report generator.
| Guideline | Examples |
|
Include date ranges in your prompt to get information about specific days or weeks. |
|
| Try to put as much detail as you can in your prompt to get an equally detailed report. |
|
| Simple but to-the-point prompts can generate a surprising amount of data. |
|
| Listing the metrics you want can automate report construction. |
|
| Rollback or re-apply changes made (in single steps). |

Manager accounts
The report generator provides limited support for manager accounts (MCC) which allows for prompts that span accounts. Learn more about manager accounts.
Examples
- 'What are my best trending accounts'?
- 'Where is my performance dropping'?
Invalid prompts
Sometimes your prompt may not generate a report and instead cause an 'invalid' error message to appear. A prompt may be considered invalid for many reasons, including the following:
- The prompt may have conflicting metrics or instructions.
- The prompt asks to compare data from other platforms like Google Analytics or Looker Studio.
- The prompt asks to update or modify a report, for example, adding a new column, adding a campaign status, changing the date range and more, after the report is already generated.
- The prompt may be inappropriate or be unrelated to Google Ads.
- The prompt is too vague.
