You can upload documents and spreadsheets to the Gemini Apps to get answers, summaries, and insights about your content.
What you need
Important: If you don’t have Gemini Advanced, there are limits to which devices can access this feature. Without Gemini Advanced, there are also more limits for how much you can use the feature, like uploading files or asking Gemini Apps to reference uploaded files. If you would like to upload and analyze more files, learn how to upgrade to Gemini Advanced.
- To upload and analyze files, you must be 18 or over.
- If you use Gemini Apps with a work or school Google Account, your administrator must enable the ability to connect to apps in Gemini.
- For now, if you’re using Gemini Apps with a work or school Google Account, you can’t upload code folders.

To use this feature, you must be signed in to Gemini Apps. Learn how to sign in to Gemini Apps.
Upload files & code folders
Important: Currently, you can’t upload images and files in the same prompt. Learn how to upload a photo in Gemini Apps.
- On your computer, go to gemini.google.com.
- In the text box at the bottom, enter your question or prompt.
- Click Add files

- To upload a file from your device: click Upload files
.
- To add a code folder: click Upload code folder
.
- To add a file from your Google Drive: click Drive
.
- To add files from your Drive, you need to have Gemini Apps Activity on and connect Google Workspace to Gemini Apps. If it’s not connected, you'll get the option to connect it. Learn about your Gemini Apps and Google Workspace data.
- To upload a file from your device: click Upload files
- Click Submit

Supported files
Important:
- Some file types are only supported with Gemini Advanced. These file types are listed below. Learn how to upgrade to Gemini Advanced.
- Up to 10 files can be uploaded at a time, and each file can be up to 100 MB.
- One code folder, with a maximum of 1,000 files and a maximum folder size of 100 MB, can be uploaded at a time.
Supported file types include:
- Code files including C, CPP, PY, JAVA, PHP, SQL, and HTML*
- Document files: DOC, DOCX, PDF, RTF, DOT, DOTX, HWP, HWPX
- Documents created in Google Docs
- Plain text files: TXT
- Presentation files: PPTX
- Presentations created with Google Slides
- Spreadsheet files: XLS, XLSX*
- Spreadsheets created in Google Sheets*
- Tabular data files: CSV, TSV*
*File type is only supported with Gemini Advanced.

Create a chart based on your data
You can ask the Gemini web app to create a chart based on your uploaded spreadsheet(s), zoom in to explore the chart, and customize the chart for your needs.
Customize a chart
- Below the chart, click Edit

- Choose how you want the chart to change. For example, you can edit things like the chart type and labels.
- Click Update.
