The suite of reports in Analytics lets you analyze your app data across periods of time to identify trends and anomalies among segments of your user base. There are, however, use cases for live reporting that aren’t satisfied by general reports.
StreamView gives you a live view of events as they are collected by Analytics. These reports are optimized to give you a deeper understanding of who is using your app and what they are doing, in real time. StreamView focuses on the events that are collected over the last 30 minutes, and creates reports that change throughout the day as usage patterns change across different time zones.
No extra setup is required to use StreamView. As long as you have properly integrated the Firebase SDK, StreamView reporting works for your app. Use DebugView to confirm that you have properly integrated the SDK.
To access your live reports:
- In Analytics, navigate to your app.
- Click StreamView in the report navigation.
The default view is a geographical view of Users whose devices have logged events over the last 30 minutes.
Select Users to see metrics related to app users who have been active during the last 30 minutes. Select Events to see events that were logged by users’ devices during the last 30 minutes.
The marquee displays the top User or Event dimensions related to data collected over the last 30 minutes. Click each dimension to see how user attributes are ranked during the reporting period.
You can apply StreamView filters in addition to the standard report filters.
Apply additional filters to StreamView reports to answer questions like: “What are the most popular search terms in my app for users in Los Angeles, California?” or “In which cities are users searching for ‘Election Results’ right now?”. To apply a filter:
- Click a dimension in the marquee at the bottom of the screen.
- Select a value (such as a Country, City, Event Name, or Event Parameter Value) and click Apply. This creates a chip on the marquee that acts as a filter for the rest of the report. To remove a filter, click X on the chip.
Hover over USERS/EVENTS in the marquee to display the TIMELINE DETAILS option.
Click TIMELINE DETAILS to display a bar chart view of Users or Events (based on the current metric type). The bar chart view introduces the Minutes dimension, visualizing the fluctuation in the volume of Users or Events over the last 30 minutes (1 bar per minute). Hovering over each bar reveals a summary of information for that minute of time.
Hover over USERS/EVENTS in the marquee to display the TRENDING option.
Click TRENDING to display a table of the top events or user properties logged during the last 30 minutes (based on the current metric type). You can click the maximize button to present a full-screen, dynamic view of this report. This allows you to create a showpiece out of the most insightful metrics in your app, such as the most popular search terms, most popular products, or most popular songs being streamed in the last 30 minutes.
User snapshots is a detailed, user-centric report that lets you see the sequence of events logged by an individual user during the last 30 minutes. The sequence and timeline illustrate how users in a certain country and on a specific version of your app navigate through your app.
To interact with this report:
- Select a Location and an App Version from which you’d like to sample users.
- Use the arrows to cycle through different users for quick comparisons.
- Click an event to examine its parameters and user properties.
