Change interest-based ads settings

This article applies to customers who have the new version of Fiber TV. If you have the older version of our user interface, please view this article on how to change the interest-based ads settings.
Interest-based ads are available only in the Kansas City area. Currently, interest-based ads are not scheduled to be available in other areas. If your Fiber TV doesn't have the ads settings described in this article, you're not receiving interest-based advertising.

When you watch shows with Google Fiber TV, some of the advertisements (commercials) you see are based on your interests. If you don't want to see interest-based commercials, you can opt out of this feature. This setting doesn't affect how many commercials you see, only their relevance to your interests.

Interest-based ads are based on your television viewing history. If you want to delete your viewing history, you can reset your Fiber advertising ID.

To change ads settings:

  1. Press  on the remote control, select Settings, and press ok.

  2. Select Advanced and press ok to display the Advanced Settings page.

  3. Select the settings you want to change:

    Show Interest-Based Ads Turns interest-based advertisements (commercials) on or off. If this setting is off, you'll no longer see ads based on your interests.
    Reset Advertising ID Deletes your past viewing history, which the interest-based ads feature uses to deliver ads. If you delete your viewing history, interest-based ads are delivered based on your viewing history from that point on, not your past history. 

Any changes you make to ads settings affect all the TV Boxes in your home, not just the TV Box on which you changed the settings.

How do interest-based ads work?

Interest-based advertising on Google Fiber TV is based on your television viewing history. For example, an advertiser that advertises on football games may want to deliver an ad to households that regularly view football games, even when they're viewing other programming.

Are interest-based ads shown during children's programming?

No, interest-based ads are never based on or delivered to children's programming.

Are interest-based ads for local businesses?

Yes, interest-based ads are a part of Fiber TV's local TV ad delivery service, which provides you with ads for nearby businesses—like the car dealership downtown or the neighborhood flower shop. These ads are shown during existing ad breaks, along with national ads, on live TV. If you're watching recorded content, you have the same control over local ads as you do with any others: you can skip, pause, rewind, and so on.

Fiber TV ads might be delivered to you based on geography, the type of program being shown (for example, sports or news), or—for interest-based ads—your viewing history.
