The Google Fiber storage device can store up to 2 terabytes (TB) of data, which is enough space for hundreds of recorded shows. In addition, if the device does become full, it automatically deletes some recordings to make room for new ones. In this case, you can clean up the device to make room for new recordings.
To clean up your storage device:
First, check your how much space is being used on your storage device. Then do the following, as needed:
-
Delete any recordings you've already watched or no longer want to watch.
-
Delete any system notifications you're already read; these notifications take up a small amount of space on the storage device.
Here are some ways you can keep your storage device from being full:
-
Delete recordings as soon as you finish watching them.
-
Cancel any scheduled recordings you no longer want to watch, especially series recordings and keyword recordings.
-
When creating keyword recordings, try to use specific keywords. If your keywords are common words, the DVR might record a lot of shows very quickly.
-
When scheduling a series recording, set recording options to record only first run shows; record reruns only if you haven't yet watched those episodes.
-
When recording a show, make sure the recording options are set to Delete When Full rather than Keep Forever. That way, your DVR will automatically delete older recordings to make room for new ones.
When your storage device needs more space for new recordings, it automatically deletes recordings in the following order:
-
Shows that your DVR automatically recorded. If your TV Box is on, your DVR automatically records any shows airing on the channel your TV is tuned to. However, these recordings generally don't appear in your list of recorded shows.
-
Recordings marked Delete When Full that you've already watched (marked as watched).
-
Recordings marked Delete When Full that you haven't watched (marked as unwatched).
