Configure UPnP port forwarding

Here's how to turn on or turn off UPnP port forwarding in the advanced network settings of your Fiber account.

Most Network Box customers are eligible to upgrade to a Nest Wifi Pro Router. To learn more, visit the Router upgrade for Network Box customers article.

Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) is a network protocol that allows compliant devices to automatically set port forwarding rules for themselves. These devices can be personal computers, printers, security cameras, game consoles or mobile devices that communicate with each other and share data over your network.

By default, UPnP port forwarding is set to Off. When you turn on UPnP, this is commonly referred to as opening a port.

 CONFIGURE PORTS

To configure UPnP port forwarding:

  1. Sign in to Fiber using the email and password you use for your Fiber account.

  2. Select Network at the top-left corner. (If you don’t see it, click the navigation menu to display the selection.)

  3. Select Advanced; then click Ports.

The Ports tab displays a list of the current port service mappings, and lets you enable or disable UPnP port forwarding.

Toggle on or off UPnP port forwarding in the Port tab of the advanced network settings of your Google Fiber account.

To enable or disable UPnP port forwarding:

  1. Set UPnP port forwarding to On to allow UPnP devices on your Fiber network to set their own port forwarding rules. Set it to Off to prevent UPnP devices from setting up port forwarding.

  2. Click Apply to save your changes.

After you set up port forwarding on one or more devices, those devices appear in the list, along with the ports, protocol, and service to which each is mapped. The summary includes port forwarding rules that were set manually and by UPnP devices.

If you disable UPnP port forwarding, the Network Box stops forwarding incoming requests to ports for which UPnP port forwarding rules are in effect. If you later re-enable port forwarding, your UPnP devices must set up new port forwarding rules.
