Google Classroom & your child's Google Account

If you use Family Link to manage a Google Account for your child, you can sign them in to Google Classroom on their Android device using their school account. When they’re signed in, you can still manage their personal account using Family Link.

You can also sign your child in to Google Classroom on their ChromeOS device using their school-issued account, but you will not be able to manage their school account using Family Link.

Troubleshooting

Can’t add an account

Make sure you enter the email address and password that your child uses at school. You can’t sign in to Google Classroom with your child’s personal account. See more troubleshooting tips.

If your child’s device has the Chrome app Chrome or the Google app Google Search, make sure to update these apps to the latest version.

Using Google Classroom with your child’s ChromeOS device

Important: If you do not use Family Link to manage your child’s ChromeOS device, please refer to this article instead.

1. Signing in with your child’s school-issued Google Account

If your child is already signed into their Chromebook with a personal account supervised with Family Link, you can add their school-issued Google Account to the Chromebook as a new user. If the Chromebook is already managed by Family Link, you’ll need to enter the  Parent Access Code as you add a new account.

2. Using Google Classroom

Your child’s school may have Google Classroom, which teachers can use to give and receive assignments, offer feedback, and assign grades. Learn more about Google Classroom. To access your child’s Google Classroom, go to classroom.google.com.

Will Family Link supervision apply to my child’s school account?

When your child is signed into a school-issued Google account, the account settings and controls chosen by their school administrator will apply. For example, your child’s school administrator may have set policies to restrict certain apps or websites.

Family Link’s supervision tools such as screen time limits only apply when your child is signed in with their personal Google Account, and will not apply while your child is signed in to their ChromeOS device with a school-issued Google Account.
