Grade and return question answers

This page is for teachers. Students go here.

To review and grade answers to a question, open the question in the class stream or on the To-do page.

View answers
  1. Tap Classroom Classroom.
  2. Tap the class and then tap the question.
  3. Tap Student work and then All students.
  4. (Optional) To respond to a student’s short answer question, tap Reply Reply, enter your reply, and tap Post Post. Tap Back Back to return to the answers summary.
  5. Tap Cancel Close to return to the Student work page.

Note: All students will be able to see the reply.

Grade and return an answer
  1. Tap Classroom Classroom.
  2. Tap the class and then tap the question.
  3. Tap Student work.
  4. (Optional) The default point value is 100. To change it, tap the point value. Enter another value or select Ungraded and then Save.
  5. Tap a student’s name.
  6. At Add grade, enter the grade.

    Note: For decimal grades, 2 digits past the decimal point are supported. If you enter more than 2 digits, the grade is rounded to the nearest 2-digit decimal form. For example, if you enter 88.725, it’s rounded to 88.73.

    The grade is automatically saved but not returned to the student.

  7. (Optional) To add a private comment, tap Add private comment. Enter your comment and tap Post Post.
  8. Tap Cancel Close.
  9. Choose an option:
    • To return the grade to the student, tap Return.
    • To continue grading, enter grades for any additional students.
  10. (Optional) To return grades to multiple students at once, tap the box next to each student whose grade you want to return, tap Return, and confirm.

Note: To update students about their grades, you need to return grades to them. You can return grades during another session.

Change a grade
  1. Tap Classroom Classroom.
  2. Tap the class and then tap the question.
  3. Tap Student work.
  4. Tap a student’s name.
  5. Enter the new grade.

    The grade is automatically saved but not returned to the student.

  6. Tap Cancel Close.
  7. Choose an option:
    • To return the grade to the student, tap Return.
    • To change other grades, enter new grades for any additional students.
  8. (Optional) To return updated grades to multiple students at once, tap the box next to each student whose grade you want to return and tap Return.
  9. Tap Update.

This feature is only available in the desktop version of Classroom. Click Computer to see the instructions.
