Google Workspace for Education
Can I use Classroom if Drive is disabled on my Google Workspace for Education domain?
No. Classroom works with Drive, Docs, and other Google Workspace for Education services to help teachers create and collect assignments and students to submit work online. If Drive is disabled:
- Docs and other services are also disabled.
- You won’t be able to attach these materials to work you assign students.
- Students won’t be able to attach them to their work either.
- You can still use Classroom, but the feature set is very limited.
Is Classroom any different when using a school account or a personal account?
Classroom is mostly the same for all users. However, because users with school accounts have access to Google Workspace for Education, they get additional features, such as:
- Email summaries of student work for guardians
- Full administration of user accounts
G Suite for Nonprofits users have the same features as Google Workspace for Education users.
How does Google Assignments differ from Google Classroom?
Google Assignments is for institutions that use a learning management system (LMS) and want improved assignment and grading workflows. The school admin integrates Assignments within the LMS as a Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) tool.
If you use Classroom, you already enjoy the best of Assignments, including Originality reports.
Safety and security
Does Google own the student, teacher, or school data in Classroom?
No. Google doesn’t assume ownership of any user data in Google Workspace core services, including Google Workspace for Education. If an education department, school or university decides to stop using Google, we make it easy for them to take their data with them.
