Educator guide to Assignments setup

This article is for educators.

If you’re interested in using Assignments, but don’t see it in your LMS, your admin might not have set up the connection. For instructors to use the tool, it must be installed within your institution's LMS by a domain admin. To check if Assignments has been set up in your LMS, follow these instructions to create assignments. If you can’t set up an assignment, we encourage you to contact your LMS admin to make sure the tool has been enabled. Depending on which LMS you use, you can share these installation instructions with your admin:

If you’d like to reach out to your administrator with more information, we’ve provided an email template below:

[Subject]  Google Assignments is now available to add to our LMS

Hi [insert Admin’s name],

Have you heard about Google Assignments, a new LTI app included with Google Workspace for Education? I would like to request that you install it so instructors can use it within our Learning Management System [insert LMS: Schoology, Blackboard, Canvas, Sakai, D2L, etc.].

With Google Assignments, instructors can:

  • Create and share new coursework, such as templates and worksheets.
  • Use time-saving grading features, such as an easy-to-use comment bank.
  • Check for potential plagiarism in student work with originality reports.
  • Integrate Google Docs and Drive directly into the Learning Management System we already use for streamlined feedback and file sharing.

You can learn more about setting up Google Assignments, which is generally available as a Google Workspace for Education Core Service. As an instructor, I believe this would make our work within [insert LMS: Schoology, Blackboard, Canvas, Sakai, D2L, etc.] better for student and instructor assignment workflows.

Thanks for considering,
[Instructor’s name]
