You can use Google Duo to make video or voice calls. All calls are made through your mobile data plan or a WiFi connection. Calls don't use your mobile minutes. If you use your mobile data, charges may apply.
Before you begin
When you use Duo for web, you don't need to turn on your phone or have it nearby. If you make calls from your computer, Google Duo won't use your mobile data. Learn how to set up Duo for web.
Start a video or voice call on Duo for web
- Go to duo.google.com. If Google Duo isn’t installed, learn how to set it up.
- Select an option:
If the number is a saved contact:
- Select the contact.
- Click Voice call or Video call.
If the number isn’t a saved contact:
- Click Start a call
.
- Enter a phone number or email.
- Click Video call.
Start a call on a Chromebook
- If Google Duo isn't on your Chromebook, learn how to install it.
- In the corner of your screen, select the Launcher

- Open Google Duo.
- Select a contact to audio or video call; create a group: or invite friends
Start a group video call
Start a group call
- Go to duo.google.com.
- Click Create group link.
- Click Add people
Select contacts.
- In the top right, click Add
Start call.
Share a link to start a group call
- Go to duo.google.com.
- Click Create group link.
- Optional: Name your group
click Save.
- Optional: Name your group
- Click Start call.
- At the bottom, click Copy

- If the recipient clicks the link on a computer, it opens duo.google.com.
- If the recipient taps the link on mobile and Google Duo is installed, the Google Duo app opens.
- If the recipient taps the link on mobile and Google Duo isn’t installed, the link opens Google Duo in Google Play or the App Store.
Leave a group
- Go to duo.google.com.
- Under "Groups," click a group.
- In the top right, click More options
Leave group.
If you get a group invite that includes blocked accounts or people outside your contacts, Google Duo marks the group as suspicious. Google Duo won’t give you any information about group members you blocked.
You can join or decline the group. If you join, Google Duo won’t unblock people you blocked.
- Go to duo.google.com.
- Under “Groups,” click a group.
- In the top right, click More options
See group members.
- Click the group member you want to remove.
- On the right, click More options
Remove.
Optional: You can also block the group member.
Tip: If the person you blocked clicks the original link to rejoin the group, they get a message that the group doesn’t exist. The group link is refreshed for everyone else in the group. Learn about blocked numbers in group calls.Messages from web
- Go to messages.google.com.
- On the left, select a conversation or click Start chat.
- In the top right, click Video or voice call on Google Duo
. A new tab opens.
- Click Video Call.
