Problem sharing docs with a yahoo email account

I am having a strange issue with sharing a folder in Google Docs/Drive. There is a person with a yahoo account that I am trying to share a folder with. I go through the dialog to share the folder, and the address I provide is:

john...@yahoo.com

However, after I save it, it is saved as:

john...@gmail.com

Has anyone seen this behavior before?

In the meantime, it appears as if I cannot share to the john...@yahoo.com address.

Thanks,

Matt

Hi Matt,

I've never seen this. What I can tell you is that if you set your folder as Private and add the email addresses you want to share with, it will only work for Google accounts.

For others, who don't have Google accounts, to access your files/folders, it has to be set as Anyone with the link.

Regards,

Filipe

As it happens I have seen something similar - an auto switch to a Gmail address in the Who can access entry.  The person concerned did have a Gmail address, but it wasn't what I wanted to enter.

1.  Ask your collaborator if, despite the 'problem' at your end he can still access the document according to your settings.

2.  Ask him if he has a Gmail account as well as his Yahoo account.

And, of course, please let us know the outcome.

I'm seeing this exact same issue.
I cannot enter a yahoo account - it switches to a gmail account every single time.
Any updates on this issue?

No... :-(

Somebody else just reported this issue in a new thread.

Let me mention also on this conversation that the problems with sharing to a non-Google account have been around for years and the Google Docs+Drive technical team seems unwilling or unable to get a good handle on the issues. The manifestations of the problems sometimes change; sometimes the share works and then later it doesn't work again. The conversation here [1] around 2011-04-25 is of some interest because a Google staffer confirmed an understanding of the problem and a desire to get it fixed.
