google drive color quality

when i move pictures or any image with color into a folder in the drive, the resolution and color representation is so bad that the distortion is simply unacceptable. is there a way around this, or should i be exploring another vehicle like dropbox or evernote? prefer to use google drive, but shocked at the lousy quality. thanks for the help

The color representation in the Docs+Drive viewer is indeed atrocious. The worst cases are images that mix color and grayscale; such images are rendered by the Docs+Drive pdf viewer in a way that uses only 16 colors and 16 shades of gray. As an example please see the appended two screenshots, which are images of the same pdf file. The image on the left is produced by the Docs+Drive viewer and the image on the right is a regular view through a browser's built-in (non-GDocs) pdf viewer. The image on the right is the desired image as the pdf file was produced.

If a pdf file is stored on the Docs+Drive cloud then by default it is viewed through the Docs pdf viewer; this is true no matter which browser is used. Therefore, one work-around is to avoid the Docs+Drive cloud and just store pdf files on Zoho, Dropbox or any other non-Google space. Another work-around was identified by Maria Silvana in the conversation [1]; it involves changing the link to a file on the Docs+Drive cloud as follows: replace the header "https://drive.google.com/file/d/" by "https://googledrive.com/host/" and strip away the trailing "/edit?usp=sharing".

Here is an example of one pdf file through 3 different links.

GDocsImagesGrayscaleColorComposite.pdf on the Docs+Drive cloud, original link from the share dialog:

GDocsImagesGrayscaleColorComposite.pdf on the Dropbox cloud, same file as the previous one:

GDocsImagesGrayscaleColorComposite.pdf on the Docs+Drive cloud, link modified following Maria Silvana:

Follow the first link and one sees the image through the Docs+Drive pdf viewer. Follow the second or the third link and one sees the image through the browser built-in pdf viewer. The results obtained today are shown in the screen captures left (first link) and right (second or third link).
